New York City is the greatest city in the World without question. I've lived there for 14 years and I'm telling you when I'm old enough I want to move back. One, you cannot drive in New York City, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island, and especially Manhattan. If you want to live in the city you almost have to take the subway. The subway, even with all the saying that its bad and dirty and a pool of trouble, is not as they say. its becoming safer and faster and we upgrading almost the entire subway system. Two, there are alot of great landmarks to see, its almost endless. There is just almost and endless list of reasons to live in New York. And plus, living in New York is the ultimate test. Like they say, if you can make it here you can make it anywhere!

Hmm, that depends on how long do you plan to live in the Big Apple. It IS expensive. Gone are the days where you could get a $900/month apartment in Manhattan...or Brooklyn for that matter. There are still some bargains, I'm sure. I used to rent a $750 basement apartment (small, but it had everything!) in Staten Island. You could try there if you don't mind taking an express bus or the ferry to Manhattan. You will need a car, though.

You don't need a car anywhere else in the Big Apple, since public transportation is excellent and, while not cheap, it's affordable at $2 a ride. Plus, a $10 Metrocard gets you 1 free ride (I think). There are interurban trains as well, like Amtrak and the LIRR and the Path to New Jersey.

New York has a glamorous side, but you'll be able to enjoy it if you have a good job. If you are forced to survive on, say, a waiter's pay, you'll have to have Job's patience and a Buddhist's optimism and sense of purpose to enjoy every little good thing that NYC has to offer. Otherwise, you'll be racked with preoccupations, how to pay the rent, eat a decent meal and buy good clothes.

This native New Yorker visited San Francisco twice, and so I can tell you that NYC is just like San Francisco, multiplied by 15.
Because there's more people here, you might discover that New Yorkers are not as nice as Franciscans.
New York has the oldest public transportation system in the world. Our subway covers more distance. We have tons of bus lines (public and private), and so we don't really need a car on daily basis. Food shopping is as easy as just crossing the street, or walking a couple of blocks to large supermarket. A small studio condo can start at $175,000. Rent for small studio from $1,200 depending on location (walk-up, elevator, doorman?) Parking rules are the same as any city with parallel parking, except we don't park perpendicular, since we don't have those wonderful hills in S.F.

The city itself is very expensive. U can find apartments in other parts of ny. But like i said the city is very expensive. As far as glamorous, i wouldn't say that i would say that it is live especially in the city. I don't think its complicated at all, it just take time to get use to. As far as driving goes, some people drive to a certain spot, and then catch the train the rest of the way. There are also cabs and buses. We go grocery shopping like everywhere else. Some people order there grocerys off the internet, and others just go to the supermarket.

You've picked my two favorite cities in the world! I have to say that if I couldn't live in New York, I'd certainly want to be in San Francisco. NYC is a wonderful experience. The whole world comes to you. . .there is so much diversity, talent, culture, work, life-experiences etc. I've been here for years and have yet to ever become "bored". You see and experience the world differently when you have had the experience of living in New York City. Good luck to you!

well you can rent a studio in the village (where being from San Fran you should fit right in) for about $1,500 a month maybe a cheap one for about a grand (not kidding)...sounds like you want to live in Manhatten hope ya got a lot of money or you can always live in Harlem...its easier to use the Mass Transit than trying to find parking...ride a bike or walk, everything is within walking distance you really don't need a car...just a friend with a car when you want to go far

Its almost the same as San Francisco but its very crowded and is very busy. The Big Apple is the best place on earth. You can visit all over Manhattan, and shop till you drop. You can see all the sights. Its very awesome, but it gets boring if you visited the places over and over again.

Stay in Frisco unless you hit Lotto for big bucks. Average apartment costs in NYC are a quarter mil or more for a shoebox. I know someone who pays $2500 a month in rent for what is little more than a closet near the UN.

Visit New York, and see for yourself. Take a tour of the outer boroughs too.
