let me guess doesn't stay on all the time but flashes instead?
Ok I'll come clean.... It's a sinister plot by Ford to make people question about that stupid light and make dealer techs hunderes of dollars answering the question from the people's owners manual....
IT's a function of the PATS anti-theft system... basically it's a theft deterrant like them red LEDs of years ago for aftermarket car alarms.. plus dealer techs use them to help diagnose the system (If it flashes when the key is turned on it means the key isn't programmed for the car or it didn't recognize the key for instance)

This a normal thing. It is made to flash once in a while so if any body is thinking about stealing the car they will see this and most likey will not try to. The system works off the key that has a computer chip in it. If you try to start it with a normal key the car will not start. We use it to help diag and be sure that the keys are programmed correct.
