There's this little black bump on her face, under her eye, it looks like a pimple, but it's black. She's a brown striped tabbi, but there's no fur on the bump, it's weird. Today I saw her stratching like crazy and just now I noticed that it was bleeding, she must have cut it when she was scratching... Anybody know what it might be? And will it get infected? If I had a cut I'd put some neosporin on it, or hydrogen perroxide or something, but she's a cat, idk how her immune system and stuff works.

P.S. She's 14, but in pretty good shape.

its a lot bigger than a tick, and its been there for a while.

It's not a tick. It's about the diameter of a straw. Like I said, similar to a pimple.

And about the cut. It wasn't bleeding a lot, it stopped right away, she didn't loose a drop, she won't let anyone near her face, and even if I could get near, she would freak out if anything I put on her started burning or stinging or making any sensation. Plus she'd probably lick it off of something, and make a whole new set of problems, I don't think I can do anything for her.

Cats develop boils, cysts, infections, etc., just like other animals. Most of the time some antibiotic ointment does the trick. In other cases a vet will need to use some type of surgical procedure to drain the area. With it being so close to her eye, I would get her into a vet ASAP. Let the vet determine the best course of action in this case.

For the guy that suggested putting her in a cage and submerging the cage in a tub of water.... do you have any wounds? I would like to volunteer to put you in the cage and submerge it.

I hope your cat gets better soon.

Good luck!

First of all please ignore that jerk telling you how to kill your cat. He's just another worthless blob who cannot say anything nice for any reason. I would definitely take the cat to the vet. It sounds like she could have in infection of some kind, or she could have a piece of something broken off under the skin. It could also be a small fatty tumor, which are generally harmless, but should be checked out considering it is so close to her eye. Do not use peroxide on cuts, this has been proven to not be a good choice, unless there is absolutely nothing else available; as it will initially clean the area, but it will also damage surrounding healthy tissue and will cause more damage and scarring in the long run. I use a solution of tea tree oil, mixed in a small spray bottle with filtered water for all cuts and scrapes, and it even works as a great ear cleaner for both dogs and cats. It is a natural antiseptic from Australia, and you can buy it in a drug store or in the health section of any grocery store and stores like Walmart and Target. If you have any neosporin you could try putting a tiny bit on with a Qtip, she may not like it and try to clean it off. You may be just as well to just wipe the cut and the bump with a little warm water for now and then take her to the vet as soon as possible. It could be a bug bite also. There are just too many possibilities to be trying to make a semi-educated guess. I don't know what would be making the area not have fur on it, that almost sounds like an allergic reaction. So get her to the vet, so you can be sure, I'll say a prayer for you and your fur baby. I know how this works, I have 4 kitties and one dog (a Pom who thinks she is part cat....) and I can't stand it if any of them are hurt or sick, just like my kids and grandkids.... Good luck to both of you.

My cat had developed something similar when he was around 12. I went to the vet about it and it was only a wart, apparently they are quite common when they start to get a little older. Don't use peroxide, a little dab of salt water will help heal the scratch. If it keeps bothering her you might want to take her to the vet as she might have a grass seed in there if she is an outside cat (i've heard that is very possible around eye areas.)

Could it possibly be a tick -- or something burrowed under her skin?

Aren't you a great cat owner to notice such a thing! Yes, she can get an infection...but be careful what you put on her. A topical antibiotic might help, but don't put very much on.

Remember, cats age and "stuff happens." But if you're really concerned, take her to the vet.

Good luck!

Get it checked by a vet. With her advanced age, you don't want to wait and potentially let a serious problem turn deadly.
If you can't pay, call the SPCA and animal control in your area. They have programs to help, or they can tell you which vets offer payment programs.

as a cat lover i can tell you what i did for a similar situation. clean the area well with some peroxide, and put some neopsporin on it. if after about 3 days it hasn't gone away you should take her to a vet or at least consult with one as what to do.

My cat had the same thing and i took her to the vet and it turned out to be a sliver that she got when she was rubbing her head against something wood so the vet took the sliver out and it went away.

You'd better take her to the vet to make sure it's not a bad infection of some sort.

if it is not a tick, she needs to have the vet check it..Remember when you adopted the cat 14 years ago, you made, or should have made a commitment to take care of her all the rest of her life..her eye needs taken care of now.
