Black labs, golden retrievers, dalmatians are all mandatory walking dogs. They need to be walked in order to keep them from destroying your house. Terriers are a bit high strung but spunky and funny. Chihuahua's and pomeranians tend to be nippers and yappers but cute. Pugs have breathing disorders, need to not be in extreme temperatures at all costs, very bad for their breathing (the heat and cold). Which ever you choose make sure you do your research, by a book on the breed and study it so you know what youre getting yourself into. Good luck and have fun.

They are all puppies like you said. However, they grow up. Some are big dogs and some are small dogs and you need to decide what size you want. From personal experience, golden retrievers are wonderful family pets and so are labs. Chihuahuas can be one person dogs and nippy (I was bit on the nose by one). Pugs are friendly and adorable. Terriers can be barkers. The only dalmatian I knew was vicious. I like the Westies and the Spitz, both small dogs and good-natured. I have a Lhasa Apso and I adore him, however, he's a barker and can be indifferent sometimes.

Well, it is hard to tell another person what breed of dog to get when you don't know them. What kind of time you have to spend, what is your energy level, how secure your yard is. . .these all need to be taken into consideration. Of the list, I would say the golden retriever since they are more 'middle of the road' than the other dogs in their care requirements and personalities. The one I would say absolutely not to is the dalmation if you are new to having a dog. They require much more patience and time than the other breeds. The easiest might be the pug. . ..
Good Luck in whatever breed you choose. Just remember what the dog was bred to do - i.e. hunting, that will help form the personality of the dog you get.

Labs & Dalmations are VERY active dogs who need lots of exercise a few times a day. I know someone with a Dalmation and it's very high strung and can't be trusted around anyone it doesn't know. Then it got Diabetes. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, though. Terriers are typically yippers. We had a neighbor with a Cairn Terrier and the damn thing would be outside every day at 6 a.m. yipping for an hour before she let it in. Stupid dog and stupid owner.
Decide how much time you can devote to that and if your place is large enough. I like goldens or pugs :)

do you have children? do you live in an apartment or in a house with a yard? do you like cleaning up big poops or small ones better? get yourself a book or look up breeds on the net. lap dogs are cute but they arent the smartest dogs on the block. terriers are smart and yappy. dalmations are not good around small children. only you can figure out the best kind of dog for your circumstances.
