Sweetie, you just read whatever comes in front of you in that moment when God needs you to read....Both books are just as valid, just the New Testament is 'easier' to read they think but if you are faithful enough with enough wisdom(which i can tell you are by the way you question this matter)then go on to read the old prophecy and teachings....it's just as valid.Remember to adjust for the age of the writings and remember....ask for the creators presence to interpret it with you.Bless your heart.

You should read the full bible, Old and New Testament.
I'm not sure what you have been told, but the thing about the Old Testament is that there are some of the laws that were void after the coming of Christ.
I believe that a person needs to read both, in the New Testament when a name and event from the Old Test. is mentioned it is best if you know exactly what took place so you can get the full concept of what point is being made.
Don't become upset, pray and God will lead you.

I can not speak for what others are telling you, but Christ did not come to destroy the Law (the old testament in other words - the Law of Moses) but Chrit sayd he came to FULFILL the Law.
The New Testament of Christ does not do away with the Old Testament, actually it reveals the old. Christ said that the Law will not go away, not until the end times (paraphrasing here). The Law or the Ten Commandments, God's Law given to Moses for the world to live by will never be invalid until the day that Christ returns.
Christ actually quotes from the Old Testament hundreds of times. In fact, when he was being tempted by the devil during his 40 days in the wilderness, he ALWAYS reponded to Satans temptations by stating FIRST... "For it is written. ". The New testament had not been written yet, so there for the Old was very much prevelant to the Messiah.

Listening to others talk about the bible is sometimes like listening to people gossip. Sometimes they quote things they heard from someone else....or they read it some time ago...
(you know what I mean?)
I came back to edit (shrink) my answer, hope you don't mind.
I got a little off track.. but found some bible verses from 1 John, Chapter 2, that could be helpfull. I put just a couple verses here, and you could read the chapter by clicking on the link below my answer.
1 John, Chapter 2: 7 - 12
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

I have heard folk tell me that the Old Testament was not to be regarded, but only the New; Personally, you need the OLD with the NEW to make it work, and I don't recall the Holy Bible kicking out the Old and just dealing with the New; I suggest that you read both. You see the Old dealt with the Jewish history and how they became God's chosen people. The New deals with Jesus and how he came to this earth, and how his disciples after His death, spread the Good News throughout the earth which is still being done now as you read this. don't disregard either.

The entire Bible is the inspired word of God.
In a nutshell and I truly hope this helps...
Old Testament: Is the covenant God made with man about his relationship with the Father before Christ came.
New Testament: Is the covenant God made with man about his relationship with the Father after Christ came.
The Old is still as important but we live today based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and not the Mosaic Law.

The Bible has ALWAYS been open to interpretation. Don't worry about who is telling you to read what... read it all. Read the verses that were hidden from the Bible so very long ago (the Dead Sea Scrolls). Read the pages the Vatican refuses to acknowledge are real. Read the Latter Day Saints version, the King James version, read the Talmud, the Koran.
Please, read them all. Make your own decisions on what to believe, then you can NEVER be misguided.

People say that we dont have to follow the old testament simply out of convenience to their own sinful lives. The old testament explains and illustrates the relationship between God and sin, the new test. illustrates Gods love for man despite of sin and the plan of redemption for mankind from sin. Both are important to understand for a growing Christian

Well I dont think any Christians ever told you the Old Testement is not part of the Bible anymore. I know I dont know one single Christian who thinks that and you are probably going on your own assumption OR, you talked to someone who knows nothing about Christianity. The New Testement means absolutely nothing without the Old, we need the Old as much as the New. I dont know where you get your info but Im positive every Christian that answers this will tell you we did not throw out the Old Testement.

Very good question...
Christians are claiming to be the only one true followers of correct religion which is Christianity.
At the same time they seemes like to be followers more Jesus - human being prophet- rather than God Himself.
If God is only one for them ... they should take into attention Moses and his prophecy, Old testimony which I belive is more close to be word of God rather than 4 gospels which are written by different people and contain different information..
Moses worshipped the only one God like muslims do as well.
Why muslims respect and belive all prophets while like Christians are stuck on idea that believing in Jesus-"son of God" will make them go directly to paradise...?
Is it their own way to explain well known facts that God is Only One and none can be worshipped but only GOD? or it is something esle... going astray for example
For me Christianity is like kind of convenient way of belief, easy way. Just to belive in Jesus and you are saved.
What about God , what about being sinners every day, what about other prophets and messengers of God? Or these things are not considered in Christianity?
