Mastoiditis
Inflammation of the cavity and air cells in the mastoid part of the temporal bone.

it can be due to an ear infection as the bone lies just behind the ear. it is the part you can fee is so bumpy behind your ear.

or it can be due to and underlying mild encephalitis - brain infection or meningitis - but that is serious, you wont worry about the mastoiditis then, more about the headache, pain, fever, stiff neck etc.
