My chihuahua had surgery a week ago for stone removal and had to have his uretha tube rerouted because stones got stuck in his private area adn tore the oretha tube up. He is trying to chew on the new area they had to cut and put his uretha tube at so he could go the bathroom. I am looking for somethiing to put on there to help him stop from trying to bite the site. I need somethingto stop the itching if possible. He won't get the stitches out for awhile as it was major surgery and he is looking at more surgery for same thing but more corrective surgery since this last one was an emergency surgery. If anyone can give me some safe ideas that will not harm the area and be okay to use my chihuahua I would appreciate it.

Surgical incisions are tough, don't use home remedies please... if he went through surgery your vet needs to give you a prescription topical. Using something like neosporin will cause a world of pain and problems for your dog.

Trust me, don't use any home remedies for a surgical incision... people will offer you ideas in good faith, but many of them will cause you and your dog much more trouble. It sounds like an expensive and painful surgery, don't make things worse by taking advice from people not qualified to treat your dog and who have never examined him.

Good Pet Owner! But trip4u is right, don't do anything to a surgical incision without the advice of your vet. You've paid for these surgeries ~ you obviously care a great deal ~ so take a deep breath and call that vet again.

Do your best to keep your buddy distracted from the biting, and keep him calm. Relaxation helps everything.

Good luck!

The vet should have provided an "E" collar. That's the funny looking collar that looks like a cone. It fits over a dog's head to keep if from scratching, chewing or bothering the rest of the body.

there is this anti chewing spray that you can get at most pet stores thats tastes really nasty, trust me i was curious. it is non toxic, so it should be safe. as for the itching. try using a little vaseline. the itching is because of the skin healing around the itches. vaseline is non toxic, and it should mostrize enough to make the itching go away. i hope this help you
