I can do with about 7, 6 1/2 if I have to. Last night went to bed at 1:30 am - got up at 7 am -that's pushing my luck.

6-10 hours is the average. If you are still tired after a period of such sleep something else could be going on. That is a classic symptom of diabetes.

it's the hours before midnight which count the most for a good night sleep.the ideal is to go to bed at 10 pm and wake up at six.
if you go to bed at 4am and sleep till midday you're still tired
