My cats go out every night...tonight I haven't seen 1 in about 3 hours. That may not seem like a long time, but he ALWAYS comes back within 5-10 minutes of me calling him in, or he comes home on him own. We have searched the entire neighborhood for the past hour, and called him over and over to no avail...my other cats came home tonight, just not the missing one...am I freaking out over nothing? I am worried maybe he wondered further than usual and lost track of his scent??? I have walked, and drove around looking, now I will just wait up for as long as I can...any suggestions, or help please? Could he just be acting different and for the 1 time in his life sitting under a bush or something and ignoring us?

One other thing, I don't know if it matters...he had catnip for the 1st time today, but it was about 8 hours ago, he wasn't acting odd or tired...just hoping maybe that has something to do with it, ie. he fell asleep???

Yes, he is fixed, and as far as someone grabbing him, I don't know...I last saw him around 10, and it's 1:30am now, there isn't anyone even out. We are going to look again in about 15 minutes.

One more thing...I live in a large apt. complex, there is not much traffic, and he generally stays in the same vicinity. We have searched the entire complex again, and all the surrounding streets-and nothing. At this point I am wondering if someone grabbed him...he is very friendly though, I don't think he comes across as a stray. He is well nourished and healthy. We just called the police dept. and they hadn't heard anything. I am freaking out :( Posters will definitely go up in the morning if he isn't back by then.

Cats definitely have minds of their own, I have four cats, all females, and they are indoor cats and every once in awhile one of them will get into a "I'll be silent and ignore you moods..." and I won't see her for 2 days. Is your cat fixed, there could a female in the area that he is interested in and he has gone for a visit. They can really play the ignore game very well. He could also have gone inside someones garage, while the door was up and fell asleep and they returned home and shut the door. Cats are amazingly resilient, one of mine got out of the house when she was only about 11 weeks old, and I thought for sure she was gone to kitty heaven or stolen, and some friends of mine were walking near their daughters house with their grandchildren and spotted her in the trees at the edge of the road. This was over three miles away from my house. They called me right away and they went with me to where they had seen her, but it had gotten dark by then and she did not show herself. I could barely get through work the next day, I went directly to the same area on my way home and she comes sauntering out of the woods, as I'm walking up and down the side of the street calling her and shaking a box of cat treats. I hear this faint meow, and I turn around and look back toward where my car was parked on the side of the road. She's sitting by the side of the car all calm and collected and I'm freaking out. She ate the entire box of treats on the way home. She had been missing over three weeks by that time. I would wait until morning, and then you can go out looking again. He is, most likely; fine and will show up within the next day or two like nothing is wrong. The only thing you have to worry about is if there are a lot of cars on your road, and he is not used to the traffic, but that is probably a very minimal worry. I wish you and your fur baby the best. I'll say a prayer for you both. There are special angels on the lookout for out fur babies, just like our children. Best of luck.

Something or someone has caught his attention. Is he neutered yet? If not he could have caught the scent of a female in heat. Is he friendly towards strangers, maybe someone found him and took him home concerned he may get hit by a car?
Cats are certainly creatures of habit until something happens to break that habit. Do you have wildlife in your area, raccoons? He may have escaped by going up a tree.
If he hasn't come home by tomorrow, I'd start posting lost pet flyers and filing lost reports with the animal shelter. And don't stop looking for him.
Check with any kids in the neighborhood if they have seen him. Offer a free movie pass to the first kid that finds him. And put a flyer in your mailbox, asking your postal carrier to let you know if he spots the cat. And finally call veterinarian hospitals in the area, if he was injured someone could have taken him there.

Cats are smarter than people give them credit for. He knows where his house is and he will come back.
I had a cat when I was very young and we moved into an apartment so I had to give him up. We gave him to some relatives who lived on a farm about 8 miles away. Guess where he was 5 days later? That's right, he was on my doorstep. Just have faith in him.

I wouldn't worry hon, the chances that your cat is lost right now is pretty slim. Cats are hunters, they go out in search for pray and other things to get into. They are very curious. I've had cats go away for weeks at a time and always come back. When he gets hungry for his cat food, he will know just where he gets it from. Trust me.

It is the nature of cats to be independent. I bet he will be yelling at your door in the middle of the night. I would consider having them be indoor cats. It is much safer. Hope your purr baby comes home soon. Good luck.

putting out foodstuff could help. It sounds bizarre, yet placed out her grimy muddle container too. she would be in a position to surely comprehend the fragrance and are available decrease back to it! talk on your associates, submit posters, and walk your community in a spiral seek trend. examine in dark hiding places - below trees, porches, autos, etc. convey a flashlight and be waiting to knock on doors and ask in case you are able to examine their decrease back backyard as properly! that's in all probability that she's nonetheless near to abode yet she could are turning out to be scared, and cats can go incredibly far. that's incredibly, very, very no longer likely that she would be in a position to be killed by different cats! they do no longer combat to the loss of existence. autos are a bigger possibility, regrettably. yet in no way supply up desire! My cat while i became a new child became stumbled on 2 years after he went lacking.

Try checking your local pound to see if he is there. Also get a micro-chip in your pet and try keeping him inside from now on.

Is it raining where you are? Maybe he is hiding. Or yes, he could have fallen asleep -- my cat does that sometimes.
