Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death in hospitals today. I had a surgical mishap almost four years ago and almost died from sepsis. I hope your loved one is in a good hospital with a good Infectious Disease MD, A good ICU MD and a good General Surgeon. I had a 3% chance of survival.

i don't understand ur question. sepsis is infection on the blood. what do you mean by leaking out of the patient? patient can die of sepsis if the immune system is very low and the antibiotic is not strong enough to fight the sepsis. how lonG? it depends on the response and prognosis of the patient.

Sepsis, is a term that actually has CRITERIA.
so you are using it incorrectly
Sepsis:
Defined as 2 of the following plus an indentifiable source
WBC > 12 thousand or less than 4 thousand
Heart rate > 90 or less than 60
Fever great than 101.5 or less than 97 degrees
