Rolling your tongue into a U-shape is hereditary. Pronouncing the rr sound is not.
Form your tongue into the way you'd say a normal "r" -- then push it higher up toward the roof of your mouth and try it that way.
I have a hard time with this, too. When I finally do it, it tickles, so I stop. Bizarre feeling. Hopefully with practice it might go away.

All I can say is to practice. I know it sounds weird but the tongue is a muscle too. I could not roll my r's to save my life. Then I found one word that I could kind of do it with. I kept trying and eventually got better. Now I can roll my r's perfectly. Practice makes perfect.

it's almost like making the sound of a growling dog. Seriously. And, truly, you do have to practice a lot. That's the best way. I would start making the sound of you gargling. That is at least a start.

Try to imitate the sound of a machine gun. My native language is French and we don't roll the "R". When I first studied Italian, this is the way I learned to pronounce the "R".

As I understand it, rolling your tongue is hereditary. It has nothing to do with rolling your r's when pronouncing certain words.
