I need to lose about 35 pounds. I have NO WILL POWER. I was thinking about getting my jaw wired shut so that I can prevent myself from eating solid foods for a while. So here are a few questions....

*Has anyone ever done this, if so, what where your results?
*How long would you recommend that I keep it wired?
*How much would something like this cost and where would I go
to get it done??

Answers to any of these questions are appreciated. I would also like to here any comments, opinions, or suggestions as long as they are RESPECTFUL. I am only looking at this as an option so please do not criticize me (even though I know there are going to be idiots who do anyways). Thanks everyone!

That's extreme. Just us the following info.

The first things you want to eliminate from what you eat are: sugar, fried foods, and white flour. You want to eat as natural and unprocessed food as possible.

Sugar, anything with it is bad. From Coco-Crispies cereal, nearly all sodas, to a small bag a M&M's. All turn into body fat fairly quickly.

Fried foods. Chips, french fries, etc. All have very high levels of calories and fat. Cut out mayonaisse while you're at it.

White flour. White breads, spahgetti, Ramen noodles, most cereals, tortillas (corn & flour).

Your going to want to eat 5-7 small meals/snacks in a day. That may seem like a lot of eating, but look at it this way. Say your lost in the woods and you need to make a fire that will last all night. Will the fire last longer throwing all the wood you've collected into the fire once or twice during the night, or if you toss a couple of logs in once every 45 minutes-hour?

Your body is pretty similar. You need to feed it a little bit every 2-3 hours to keep it burning fat. The longer you go in between meals, the more likely your body is going to store what you eat as fat. This is because your body doesn't realize that there is food everywhere in the world we live in. It still thinks your a cave-man. And cave-men didn't get to eat very often. Sometimes once every 3-5 days...starving. So our body is designed to store what we eat as fat, because fat has the most energy (calories) per pound. So, if you sleep all night, then skip breakfast and don't eat until lunch at say 11:30am...you probably haven't ate anything in 12+ hours. So, your body thinks your starving, that there is no food to eat. Then you eat a nice, greasy, calorie-loaded slice of pizza. Your body will then store most of it as fat because it thinks there is a food shortage.

Aim for 250-300 calories at each meal/snack.
Also try to eat 20-30 grams of protein at each meal. And of course, your going to want to keep even healthy carbs to a minimum (less than 80 grams a day).

The healthiest carbs are:
Yams
Oatmeal (no sugar)
Sweet Potatoes

OK carbs are:
Whole-grain bread/buns/tortillas (whole-grain should be the first name on the ingredients list)
Fruits

Aside from the carbs listed above, your meals should consist of:
Chicken breast
Turkey breast
Tuna
Salmon
Egg whites
Almonds
Low-fat cheese (cottage, string cheese)
Lots of vegtables
Lots of water

You need to drink 1 gallon minimum per day. Water is what carries the toxins and fat you burn off out of your body through your urine. It also helps keep you feeling full and does wonders for your skin. If your urine isn't clear like water, drink more.

Also, take a multi-vitamin (like Centrum).

If you were to do cardio like ride a bike or run for 20-45 minutes everyday AND diet, you'll be several sizes smaller in no time. But remember, losing weight is 90% about what you eat, not how much you exercise.

Bodybuilders and fitness models basically eat this way. Not only is it low calorie, low carb, high in protein and natural...it controls your blood/sugar levels and how your body uses the food.

Good luck!

Being completely honest and non cynical, do you really think this a valuable answer? If you are serious do you really think that this is not just a quick fix, that losing weight is a life style change. Once wiring your mouth shut, what would stop you from drinking a Venti breve, extra caramel - caramel machiatto for breakfast, then having a large McDonald's milkshake for lunch and and then maybe you try to be healthy and drink a large fruit blended thingie from a smoothie shop for dinner, when in reality its made with added sugar, sorbet, and sweetened fruit. Sure you couldn't eat the burger and fries everyday and have a pint of ice cream as a midnight snack, but you will still have that sweet craving.

I am by no means a model type, but I understand moderation and exercise, eating all natural, organic (when I can), and cutting red meat out of my diet. These are lifestyle changes.

No doctor will touch you for just 35 pounds. Wiring is not done unless you break your jaw or are morbidly obese.

Go see a regular doctor and discuss your options. Exercise is key. I know cause I am going through the same but I have a medical condition that makes it even harder to keep the tons off.

Eat all the fruits and veggies you want and you will only loose weight. Just do at least one portion of protein a day to keep you healthy. Take vitamins and drink water till your back teeth float. HA! You can do it with just a little help and encouragement. It isn't impossible. Just have faith in yourself.

I had dental surgery when I was 17. I had my jaw wired for 2 months. It was hell. I had trouble talking so that people could understand me. In order to get enough protein mom had to buy that baby food that looks like pate' and she would put it in a blender and then in soup. I had to drink soup from a straw. I was limited on what I could eat. It was NO PIcnic for sure. Yes I lost some weight but when the braces came off the pounds went back on.. It is temporary fix. Try something else.

Im not critisizing you when I say this.....it is unhealthy to not eat at all because you are going to have to drink too....my suggestion would be water to drink....Just start exercising and I know that its hard to get motivated, but it makes it easier if you have someone do it with you. Look up recipes to make healthier foods. I have never heard of anyone having their jaws wired shut unless something was going on medically and I dont think they can even do that without their being something horribly wrong.

Please... You should want to be healthy, not thin. That is not meant as an insult but so many people focus on what they look like without taking health into consideration. Do you really think that will be your healthiest choice? Do you really think the weight will stay off after you're back to normal without any lifestyle changes? This is a drastic measure with unhealthy consequences. You'd be better off paying a personal trainer and exercising and going to classes that help you plan menus for a healthy diet. It'll be cheaper in the long run and stay with you your whole life.

No the wires would not go through bone and skin. They would go between your teeth and have brackets in the front that would then be wired together, I am not sugesting you do this. Went through it when my daughter broke her jaw. She ended up in hospital from dehydration. Also you would not be able to practice good dental hygene your breath would be horrible. 35 lbs is not so much to lose. try changing one thing a week, take a walk, park farther away from your office, give up soda or change to diet. You can do it with out putting your body through that. Good luck.

I've not done this myself, but I know of people who have. The wieght loss resulting from such a drastic step is very dramatic. This procedure can be done through surgeons who specialize in weight loss surgery such as what you are asking about, as well as gastric bypass surgery or duodenal switch surgery. This surgery is not for everybody, and WILL NOT be done unless you are morbidly obese, meaning that you are more than 100 pounds overweight.
For those who elect this type of drastic weight loss, it is covered by some insurance companies because of the health benefits in the long term.
Usually individuals who undergo this type of procedure are counselled about their weight loss and are referred to a nutritionist for meal planning and balancing as well through their program.
Unfortunately, sometimes people who undergo this procedure will gain back the weight they have lost, because it has been lost so quickly and drastically, and have not equipped themselves with what is needed to maintain their ideal weight.

There is a clinic in Montreal, Canada that specializes in this surgery, as well as many others in the United States. You can google it under "gastric bypass surgery", and you will be provided with some links.

I don't know that anyone would actually wire your mouth shut for something such as this.
It would be extremely painful....
The wires actually go through bone and skin....
There are risks of infection, etc...
Usually jaws only get wired shut when people break their jaws....
you could pretend yours is wired shut and only drink through a straw....
