This has been bothering me since yesterday. Okay, what's the pattern? (My friends said it's so easy that it's hard. Like that helps... :P)

EXAMPLES -
I like bottles, but not cans.
I like forks, but not spoons.
I like to see, but I don't like the sea.

They said it has nothing to do with the number of letters or the order they come in the alphabet.

Perhaps I'm not being clear... I don't know what the answer is myself so don't ask me.

Those were just examples above. (Notice how it says "EXAMPLES" in caps...) The goal is to try and figure out that pattern with the given examples.

I like _____, but not _____.
There is some pattern that the words must fall under.

are you sure the second one isnt:

I like spoons, but not forks?

That would make it double letters. But as it is, I am not sure...

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, "When i get to heaven I will ask Jonah."

The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"

The little girl replied, "Then you ask him?"
