I was briefly dating this guy I met online. At times he would be talking to me and instead of saying my name, he would say, "woman". I told him I didn't like it, that it is a derogatory remark used to put women down. He denies this, and says its just a word, no meaning. I told him it bothered me, but he still used it and even once when I was not really listening to him he said, "woman" to get my attention. Do you think its used as a put down?

Absolutely!!! It's like saying "***** come here"! It's labeling you as inferior when it comes from a man especially if its in a commanding tone. What an *** hole! You should have beat his *** with your shoe!

It's just a word like any other. How it is used, in what tone, what is said with it etc is the key. But if it bothers you and he didn't stop, then we have a problem.

He is so used to saying " woman" and don't bothered about your feeling. So you can tell him straight in the face that you don't like his attitude and he must show improvement to his attitude otherwise you can take further action

hes been utterly rude! it shows his cultures, and upbringing, regard on how he respect women, although not exactly a bad word, but its the"intentions"that counts,by saying it,he's trying to exert control over,u,if it were me i would call me,,yes caveman?ok caveman,,got caveman,it always works with me,that's how i treat those rude cavemen, also if it were me ,i would not bother to date or even give any of my precious attentions to such low class, ghetto inbeciles
