There was a news article today about a treatment that successfully cured a case of advanced melanoma, if that's what you're thinking of. The treatment they used is actually one I heard about a few weeks ago in a seminar I attended as part of a summar program at Soan-Kettering. It's actually considered a vaccination, even though, unlikely what most people usually think of as a vaccine, it's administered to a patient who already has the disease.

The basic idea is that scientist can teach the body's own immune system to recognize cancer cells as foreign cells that it has to kill. The treatment is still in the early stages of clinical trials, it's not always effective, and it does have some risks (for example, many patients have developed autoimmune conditions because the treatment essentially overstimulates their immune system), but some patients with advanced cancers who were told they had only months to live received the treatment and are not only alive but completely cancer free after five years or more. For other patients, the immune therapy has not completely cured the disease but has kept the cancer at a manageable level for years, and may be able to do so indefinitely.

the man had a skin cancer called melanoma which had spread to his liver. They removed some of his immune part of his blood, Inserted a gene into it, and magnified it to over a million cells. Then they put these cells back into his system. The tumor in the liver shrank drastically. Then as I understand it, he was totally cured after some time passed.
It has not worked in every patient and they are trying to figure out why.

In May of this year, I had malignant melanoma cured. They took a chunk out of my arm (where the mole that turned cancerous was) and did a skin graft. I have to have every mole on my body checked every 4 months for the rest of my life but I count it as a cure.

They can probably cure anything but the money is in the come-back(treatment) not the cure.
