I am genuinly asking this, because I can't comprehend why people would attack it so continuously. I will never change what I believe, what is your goal? Is anyone else ridiculously tired?

The bible says that all are sinners and that because God is a perfectly Holy and Righteous God He must judge sin and he can never allow any sinful being into his presence. But, as I said before, we're all sinners. So he sent his Son to die for the sins of the world so that those who accept his plan are legally(from a court of law point of view) guiltless and may enter heaven but you must repent and live for God and turn from your ways of sin. This is all taught in the bible. If you happen to be a person who doesn't want to live that way and wants to go on in your sin then you'll feel a lot better if you can find some proof that the bible is not true. I think another reason why the bible is attacked so much is that, in their hearts, most people think it is true. No other Holy Book has ever been attacked like the bible. Despite the 2000 years of attacks the bible is still going strong. I remember back in the 1960's when the big book was 'the exorcist'. I heard on the radio that it was the greatest selling book of all time because it had sold 13 million books in the 5-10 years it had been out. I said to myself, "they forgot one book, namely, the Bible......It sold 207 million that year alone". Voltaire, on his deathbed in his house, said "I'm glad that through my work in my lifetime we have destroyed the credibility of the bible and inside of 50 years the bible will be considered to be totally myth and nobody will even want to read it". Fifty years later the european bible society bought that very same house and turned it into a bible factory. If you don't want to live the way the bible says you should live you're going to want to see the bible disproved. A lot of people don't want to live the bibles way. Jesus himself said(speaking of himself) "light came into the world but men loved darkness because their deeds were evil.

I think it's more a case that, just as some lend their support to the Bible, others choose to put the boot in to it. If Christians wave the Bible and offer it as "proof" of the existence of God to people who have an entirely different mindset, it makes no sense to complain when people with that different mindset bite back. It is for certain that plenty of Christians can be very quick to launch attacks on people like Darwin and his works, and others who promote ideas which conflict with religion.

In the end, the solution really is very simple.

If you don't want people to gripe about your dog, don't let it bark all the time and irritate others.

If you don't want people to complain about your stereo system, turn it down so you and you alone can hear it.

And if you genuinely don't want people to attack the Bible, leave it at home and stop waving it around in order to promote your own philosophies.

Live and let live, eh?

The hardcore full time critics(evangelical atheists) Have an undisclosed agenda. They are not doing it for altruistic reasons.
They are angry at Christians , some because they belong to other Religions, others are mad because they have a personal interest which the Bible teaches is wrong, most would like the USA
to be free of anything Christian. They often resort to offensive or insulting language because they lack the consideration most Christians have toward others.
Based on their tone it is obvious that they are not doing it out of pleasure but rather are releasing something vile which for some time must be eating at them inside pretty badly. Despite all their pretense they seem to lack the peace most of us Christians enjoy. Their real agenda is pretty evil. They are so miserable that that they try to bring everybody else down with them. Christ is the Victor, the snake will fall. Very good question

For many people yes, but there are many reasons why.

There is the group of people who simply enjoy getting people angry. If someone has a strong belief, whatever it is, questioning it can cause a powerful reaction.

There are also people who honestly think they are trying to help you see the 'error of your ways'. They are well meaning, but they fail to understand that no amount of logic or reason can defeat 'faith'. That's why it's called faith.

Oddly enough it is quite common that the person you think is refuting the bible is in fact a person who actually believes in the bible, but differs in their understanding of some point or another. Sadly this category has led to the torture and death of untold millions of people over the centuries, not just with the bible, but with (to the best of my knowledge) all holy books.

Which brings us to the faith v. faith conflict, people who believe in other holy books. Most religions (including the Christian faith) do not allow for the possibility that other holy books have any value. Obviously a believer in the Koran, the Tora, the Veda's, etc. might gain pleasure from refuting the bible. To be fair though, I know many a Christian who gets pleasure out of refuting the beliefs of others.

Normally when I hear someone doing some 'bible bashing' however, it is in self-defense. It is common for people certain beyond certainty of their point to come across as arrogant, and pushy. I can think of no religion that doesn't, if given the chance, attempt to oppres those of other faiths. As I live in a Christian culture, it is usually Christians I see swinging their 'faith' around like a baseball bat. I assume if I lived in another culture, it would be true of most, if not all other faiths as well. Bible Bashing in self-defense is perhaps an odd pleasure for those these people, as they would usually prefer to be simply left alone. I myself have been accosted by Christians on many occassions. I am not one, but oddly enough I know enough about it to hold my own in a discussion. This often leaves the 'believer' feeling abused, because I chose to defend myself. I rarely feel guilty about this, but I try not to enjoy it too much.

The final group that comes to mind would be the Athiests. By my definiton, Athiests are simply members of another religion, as they absolutly believe in the existence of something they do not, and cannot prove. The fact that their faith is placed in 'nothingness' in no way makes it more rational then any other faith. Faith isn't about being rational, even though every faith I have come across thinks their own faith does. This is especially true of athiests.

I don't do it out of pleasure so much as out of fear. Would you agree that your personal beliefs are a sound basis to legislate the morals and behaviors of others? Would you vote to elect an avowed Christian over someone who believes his or her faith to be a private matter? Are you able to comprehend the difference between living in a Christain country and one founded by Christians? Your lack of personal actions does not absolve you of the responsibility of supporting those who would harm others based only a difference in belief. You are complicit in these outrages if you don't take a stand against them. I attack your Bible on historical, factual, and moral grounds because there are those who would use it as the sole authority to bludgeon me into submission.

Where have you been the last five times I've seen this discussed and satisfactorily answered? I mean, I don't expect you to agree, but how come it's so difficult for you (I mean you all) to accept the facts as they are?

Anyway, one more time... I refute the bible, because I don't see any reason why I should accept it. That's as simple as that. Give me one REAL reason to accept it, and I probably will. You see, I'm not so closed as you are to changing my mind. But I need proof that I won't be wasting my time, by adopting a fairy tale book as the grounds for the rest of my life.

EDIT:

I did not intend to insult you. I'm very sorry if that's how it came to you. I meant to be ironic, yes. But not to offend. I'm a teacher, so I know that nobody's born knowing.

It's because of all the bad brought on by those who say they were doing things in the name of God. Those people are either clearly lying, and you should point out that those people were not true believers, or your God is a little bit of a jerk. I'm more apt to think that the other people don't really believe.

But you can't deny that it's wrong to deny people happiness just because of what you believe. I'll use myself as an example, if you don't mind thinking it a little shallow of me. I'm gay, and I plan on getting married one way or another to another man, one that I'll love and cheerish just as much as any man would a woman, or a woman a man. Most people who believe in the Bible think this is "wrong", which in itself is more a personal opinion of right and wrong. I'm also a vegetarian. Now tell me, how would you feel if I said that you, your family, and everyone you know can't eat meat because I say so? I'd be a complete and total *** about it too, I'd hassle you everywhere you and your friends and family go. Go to work, I'm there bugging you, go home, I'm there chucking rocks at you and saying "put away the hamburger!", you go to church and I'm sitting infront with my friends, we're all holding signs declairing meat-eating wrong, we dog you and everyone you know pretty much daily. It'd be miserable and unfair, wouldn't it? The same thing happened with the KKK, they thought black were bad so they harrassed them (although far worse than I would be today) whenever possible.

It's mostly the problem of forcing beliefs on others in a country were we're supposedly free. It's not fair to rule from the church to people who don't or can't believe the same way as you do.

However, the non-believers who are completely rude and flippant about it? They're complete and total *******. But they're not trying to take away your happiness, they're just trying to protect theirs. Although in a very rude and wrong manner...

The next time you run into someone who's talking trash about the Bible, don't bother getting mad over it. Point out that not everyone is trying to take away the happiness of others, just a vocal minority, tell them that true Christians are caring and understanding of everyone.

May your God protect you on your path as mine protects me.

I don't want to refute it. I want to learn from it, but sometimes have a hard time buying absolutely the whole thing. I want to follow Jesus, and the Bible seems the only good tool for figuring that out, but there's just so much in there that I can't stomach, and I've been studying it for years and years!

Don't know, maybe some people just enjoy beating their head against a wall. Men have tried for centuries to refute, destroy, condemn, burn and eliminate the Bible. They all died, and the Bible is still here. Talk about a futile exercise.

Motive? consider the following group:
Allow me to list a brief list of groups that I do know to hold Christians in contempt. Homosexuals, pedophiles, animal sacrificing “satanist”, al-queada and most muslims, communists, Hitler and his henchmen, Stalin , and an endless multitude of depraved humans sadist and sociopaths who are incapable of understanding the humanism of people such as mother Teresa and the legions of those who are motivated whit Love and compassion to sacrifice their own needs for others based on the teachings Christ and other wisdom found in that book they so despise.
