If you bought a custom-made wiring harness, make sure all connections are tight. Make sure the ground is tight. There may be a redundant ground, if so make sure it is bolted down tight. (Ground isn't your problem since the radio is on, but make sure the ground is tight anyway to eliminate future problems due to the ground coming loose).

If you had to fabricate a wiring harness, make sure the speaker wires are going to the correct speakers, L and R for each speaker and to the correct polarity of the speaker.

If all wires are tight and hooked up correctly, the radio itself might be bad. Check all possible avenues before replacing the stereo.

I have seen some ford cars where the factory wiring harness needs to have the "Remote" wire jumped to throw power to the amps. Go to a reputable car audio place and ask to see a Ford wiring harness.

Did you hook up the remote turn-on wire? Some of those cars have a factory amp mounted on the bottom of the rear shelf.
