First of all, congradulations to you for WANTING to be a super mom. I am a single dad of an 8 yr. old daughter myself and my birthday also is tomorrow. So I'll tell you what we have planned and maybe it will help. I don't like to travel on the Labor Day weekend because of all the drunks so that means no beach even tho we both love it. BUT, she picked out what we are having for my birthday dinner and she is cooking it ( with a little help from me ) and tonight we made the cake ( and we both found out the hard and messy way that we should have the beaters in the mix before we turned it on ) Then we got stuff from the dollar store and I was sent to my room while she decorated the house for me. Tomorrow we are going to Michaels and doing a craft class together and then going out to our favorite flea market to look around and go on some of the rides together. We went and rented a couple of new release movies that we BOTH wanted to see and that's what we have for tomorrownight after dinner. She knows that for me the best part of the day is just the fact that we are together. She saw how hard I fought to keep full custody of her these past couple of years and she knows without a doubt that I love her more than life itself. Your daughter will know it too if you let her. At the age they are now it's not about money but about the time you spend and the things you do. Hell, I have even learned to paint her fingernails and toe nails. OK, I will admit I have let her paint my toe nails and that makes her crack up laughing just because it's daddy doing it. We also have a journal that we both write in at least twice a week about the things that we have done and our thought and emotions. I know that as she gets older, that that will be something special for her to always have to look back on. You two have a great day, and you have a Happy Birthday. Send an e mail if you ever want to talk or if your daughter would like another little girl her age to talk with that knows how it is also.

I think a kid is happy as long as they know and feel they are loved. So, all they
want to do is spend time with U. A somple thing like sharing an ice cream
in a park. Having a pinic, play frisbee or ball. I think "together time" should
not be distracting from other things. Quality time. Kids aren't as concerned
about stuff as you are !! Unless, they're totally spoiled rotten, then they just
want more,more,more.....What about taking her with you to an arts and crafts
store ??? Like Micheals......They have wonderful things she can do and make
w/ you. Let her pick out her own art project~~and you do ur own !!! She would
LOVE that.......They have so much stuff for KIDS too. Or, you two could agree
to do the same project. It's up to her.....so you'll BOTH be happy !!!!!!!

You sound like a wonderful mom, happy birthday to you! Your little girl will have her own personality and ideas. At 8 my daughter liked nothing better than to go to the beach, lay on the sand and see the shapes clouds made. We picked up rocks, shells, ran in the waves, etc. She just wanted a day of time with me. I am betting that a free day (pack a picnic) with you will be a time she remembers the rest of her life. Kids just need attention and sounds like your little one will get it. You go mom!

Have a complete and total "girly" day. Put on some dresses, paint her nails, maybe a little lip gloss to make her feel "grown-up". Make some sandwiches together and then go on a picnic. All she'll really want is to spend the time with you. That's the best gift you can give. Plus, going on the picnic without other distractions will give you time to talk together. She'll love it!

from one poor democrat to another. :)

Well not sure where you live but a planetarium is really neat and not to expensive... A day in the park with lunch playing on the swings. The zoo is good as well... Or a chuck e cheese.. Just a few ideas.

a kid always prefer love from their parents than any gifts. if u take your kid jus for a walk with full of love and affection then ur kid won't forget that walk for the rest of her life. moreover girls get attracted to people who love them so jus spent the day along with her and just see what she's doing and enjoy ur child's day along with her.

Find something you think she would like do that and then ask her what she wants tod then you think of something and then let her pick something so on and so forth and before you know it you've spent the whole day together.
