The problem with alcohol is that it gives off a buzz. You drink up to that point but with more and more alcohol in you that buzz moment needs more stimulating, i.e. more alcohol. At some point you stop drinking because you can no longer lift another glass, or common sense somewhat calls you back to sanity.

The best way to stop drinking really is to become aware that you don't need the alcohol buzz. If that doesn't work you could ask your doctor for medicinal marihuana which has its own buzz and the stuff in marihuana is way less destructive than alcohol (liver, brain, artery and kidneys get affected badly - whereas marihuana is mainly bad for your lungs).

I've been a barkeeper for years and when I owned my own bar I was one of my better customers. In those years I built up an enormous alcohol tolerance mentally, on the physical side I had developed slight tremors of my hands that are now getting less. I realized that the alcohol caused this and started drinking less and less. Now I drink when I feel like it and no longer when I think I feel like it. The marihuana doesn't work for me, because it only makes me overly paranoid being as imaginitive as I am. But it helped a lot of friends of mine to get over their alcoholism.

Best of luck. And be persistent and hard on yourself or on the one on whose behalf you ask this question.

NO! The disease just gets stronger as you drink . And you are correct , after awhile you no longer have a choice as to weather you take that drink or not . The disease takes control of you , if you keep putting off getting help it can of course take your life . IT ALMOST GOT MINE! I tried sueiside . And ended up in a coma for 5 days . Who ever you are talking about I hope you get help before it's too late . There is hope I have five yrs. sober now !!!

You mean with-drawls. Yes some alcoholics do experience it for a while before they completely get over it. I come from a family of alcoholics and have seen it a few times. Unfortunately most of them can't stay away long enough to completely sober up.

I depends on how addicted you are. If you havent been sober for a few weeks, you might get a little sick. If it's been months or weeks, see a doctor to help get past the shakes.

If someone has been a severely heavy drinker (alcoholic), yes they might get severely sick with the DT's, shaking and craving from withdrawal and could even die from going off alcohol cold turkey just like an addict might.

Often you'll go through withdrawals and at times you'll literally feel sick. When your body gets used to a frequent doses of something, say, alcohol..it doesn't like it when you stop giving it

Yeah its called withdrawl symptoms. Your body is used to all the crap you feed it all the time and once you stop your going to have withdrawl symptoms... Kinda like smokers when they try to quit.
