Sometimes friends R meant to be just that, friends. If ur really not interested let it be known. Don't force ur self into a situation that can be more destructive than good. U could end up ruining what relationship u have w/ this person. U also mentioned that there R problems that keep u from getting involved w/ him. Whatever ur gut feeling is telling u that makes u keep ur distance, keep listening. If u were totally attracted to this guy u might not see his inadequacies. Don't let him pressure u either, stand ur ground. Good luck.

You should be upfront & honest with him about your feelings. Tell him that you just want to be friends right now. Because if you two do end up going out, then you break up, you will lose the friend you had in the first place. Ask yourself, Just how serious are these "problems" you speak of? You need to be true to yourself first!! Ask yourself .. "Is this what I really want right now?" I would talk to him first and see where things actually stand between the two of you. BEFORE you actually make any decisions!
Best of Luck to you!!

The only thing that you can do is be up front with him. Tell him you like him as a friend and would hate to lose that friendship. but you just don't feel the same way as he does. If he is a true friend and really loves you. he will accept how you feel.

You answered your own question. Tell him what you just said, and that you just like him as friends, and want to keep it that way. I am still friends with a girl that liked me in high school, but we stayed friends, and it worked out for the best. And that was over 10 years ago.

Be very honest with him. Tell him that you're not interested in being anything other than friends. Encourage him to try and meet other girls.
