I would like to be able to put two songs together, fade them in certain places, or have them repeat (seamlessly, without the gap inbetween) and then save them.
Also has anyone worked with any software that lets you save a powerpoint presentation as a DVD?

If u want to edit music files try Sound Forge i.e the Best.

if u want to edit videos u try Windows Movie Maker,Video Edit Magic since u are a newbie to this.
As a newbie i recommend Windows Movie Maker.

You can try Adobe Audition from adobe's website its a cool software with lots of plugins and filters. And if you are looking for a freeware then i suggest you to use Auadcity from "http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ " it has got features which rival commercial softwares.

I in many cases use top to edit my video clips, and for the entire slowing down/rushing up or reversing.. i exploit Magix action picture Edit professional.. i do no longer prefer to purchase it, so i in many cases merely use the trial variations.. and that i actually dont like abode windows action picture Maker.. in any respect. ahaha, so yeah(:

well there tons of software tha can do that, you just have to research and find what fits your skill level.
I would recomend going to local Apple store and try the stuff they have, because they have a very wide range of such producs.
