My boyfriend of 2 years, and my dad don't really get along, so my boyfriend won't come over. my boyfriend says my dad makes him feel uncomfortable and unwanted, and my dad thinks hes rude and disrespectful (bc he is kinda shy and quiet). now my dad won't let me go anywhere with my boyfriend until he comes here and shows that hes a respectful and trustworthy kid, but my boyfriend refuses. i don't know what to do, i can kinda see where they're both coming form. what should ido?

I used to clean my shotgun when young men came to call on my daughters.
A dad likes to meet the young man taking out his daughter, not pull up in the driveway and honk. Of course, we would be pleased if he is polite, well spoken, and promises to have her home at a reasonable hour. If he can resist driving recklessly within my earshot, so much the better.
I don't think any of that is too much to expect, and I imagine your Dad has similar expectations. We were young men once, and Ithink you could be suprised by the allowances your Dad could make. Talk to both of them.

Respect your dad. No matter what in the end, he's the only one who's going to be there for you. But I would try and talk to your dad, and express how you feel. And if your BF, really likes you, he would do anything to be with you. If he doesn't, then he either doesn't really like you, or he isn't a real man.

Your boyfriend owes your father respect because he is his elder and because he is your father. If he cannot be respectful to your father how can you think he will treat you with respect. Your father is right and your boyfriend should not be putting you in any sort of position to have to choose. If he does make you choose, pick your dad. You know he loves you and this jerk does not or he would not be going out of his way to antagonize your father. Dump this guy Your dad knows more than you do about life.

Try to explain to your bf that you dad just hasn't gotten to get to know him yet and that he wants to know the people you hang around with because he loves you. Tell your bf that your dad has nothing against him, he just doesn't know him. Also tell your bf something like what you tell your dad, that way they will both think they misunderstood each other and give it another chance.

tell each of them what this is doing to you as a person.... if you are 17 or older, you need to talk to dad as an adult ... lay it all out there for him to mull over and think about... dad is only out to protect his little girl, and I can't blame him for that, but if you are 17 or so, you are an adult in lots of ways.... tell Dad that his little girl is growing up and he has taught her well.... reassure Dad that things are fine and that you do understand his point of view... but, that you realy like the b/f and that you feel just MAYBE he has misjudged him just a little..... you might be surprised what Dad will come back with if you sit face to face and look him in the eye with respect and as an adult.......
