Dargging it out only hurts him more. Tell him it's over in whatever way seems best to you, but tell him.
Edit: If he is hitting on your bff, just dump him!

Well I hate to tell ya but its gunna hurt him no matter what =( but you can just be true, and say that its just not working out for you anymore and you want to move on and suggest that both of you should be seeing different people.

Be honest with him, don't embarass him. Tell him politely it is over, give him the reasons so he doesn't have to always wonder and let it go at that.

just tell him you just want to be with other people just make him sit down and talk to him and say like i think this is not working out between you and him and you want to see other people.well just say i think this is not working between you and him and just say can you too be friends after the brake up.Well (GOOD LUCK)
