We were taught in search and rescue training that the first three hours are critical. After 24 hours, the odds of finding the child decrease sharply, and at the end of 72 hours, the likelihood of finding them alive is almost zero.

Side note: if you have reason to believe that an adult has been abducted and area police have a manditory 24 hour waiting period before they can respond, call your local SAR team.

SAR teams aren't bound to that rule and can start to look for the person right away.

In my opinion, It depends on the the situation. The sad part I see is that a person can not report missing person before 24 hours.I urge everyone if the child is abducted call the police right away and now Megan Law is in effects then the cop can post the info for missing child on the special billboards along freeway signs. It is very visible for everyone who drives on the freeway.Meanwhile, the radio announcers will broadcast on the air several station and t.v. channels, I am sure within 24 hours he or she will be returned. But, if anyone waits longer than 24 hours the chance is very very slim. The child may be alive but no one can not find he or she because, the abductor is able to flee with the child. What if the police find a child 's body then that is the end of the story.Remember that there are 2 millions porn sites in the web.In addition, there are 500,000 child molestor and sex offenders who were registered in the U.S. So watch out and do not let these monsters take the child away.It is very sad issue and I urge everyone take the issue serious.

it depends on where and why they are abducted, some places its primarily for power issues between the adults (eg colombia )and the child is returned other times its for seedier issues and no then the child wont be returned they are sold and packaged off to a different country, it all depends on the WHY the abduction happened and WHO the abductors are.

Usually, (and this is stark but real), If the child is not located within 48 hours the odds are overwhelming that the child will never be found. Even less to be found alive.

0 to none. When someone has abducted a child. It is not meant to be temporary. We as parents have to keep 30 eyes watching our children. Things happen when you least expect it to.

If they are found in the first 24 hours it is a good chance they will be found alive. But after that the chances are not that good.

It really depends on the kidnapper.

But if we base it on current trends, the odds are low.
