I am glad that you have to check everything with your parents. That is a very sensible approach. But does anyone else besides you think you need to lose weight? For example, what does your doctor say?

Here is what I would want my child to do.

1. Eat three nutritious meals and three snacks everyday. Cut out junk food. You probably need about 1500 to 1800 calories a day.

2. Drink lots of water - at least 8 big glasses as day. Stop drinking soda.

3. Begin a simple weight lifting program at home. Ordinary household items (tins of soup, for example) can serve as weights for beginners.

4. Buy yourself a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

5. Record everything you eat and all your exercise to make sure you have a "calorie deficit". Two of the sites I've included will help you do that.

6. Always use stairs - never the elevator or escalator.

7. A mini stepper is an easy piece to equipment to have at home and gives great results. I bought mine at a second hand store for $4.

8. Begin some sport that you enjoy. Swimming is a good one, but you may like something else.

I hope these thoughts help. Good luck with it.

118 pounds at 12 does not sound fat to me, but I don't know how tall you are.

But if you are worried you don't need to do anything dramatic. Because you are young, it easier for your body to lose weight. What you need to do it cut out junk food, junk food makes people fat and it not good for your health.

Try to eat more fruit and veggies, if you don't like your veggies too much, try to eat fruit. Its great when you are feeling hungry, it fills you up and not fattening. You should also remember to drink 8 glasses of water a day. It is good for your skin, body and even helps you loose weight. They have found that most of the time when you feel hungry you are actually a little dehydrated, so drink water first before you reach for a snack.

Try to be more active, this does not mean going to a gym. Walking for 30 mins a day is good or what I prefer, dancing to my favourite music everyday.

Don't worry too much about feeling overweight, just try to lead an active life and eat well

These advices will be accepted by your parents and it is easy to follow them.

1. Put the target of losing weight.
2. In the morning do some cardio on empty stomach. As you are 12 you may run or just walk for 30 minutes
3.Limit your calories intake
4. 60% of daily calories you must take till 13.00 PM
5. Do not eat after 18.30. If you still want it, drink a cup of unfat milk with honey
6. Eat 5-6 times per day with litlle portions it will increase your metabolism and will make body to not deposit fat.
7. Know that it is not a matter of day, you have to be consistent and achieve your target day by day.

Good luck and if you or your parents have any questions regarding this post them on our forum: www.trainwiser.com

Do not try and starve yourself. I'm not over weight and never was but I thought I was when I was younger. When I was your age I tried that and I got really sick. And not eating doesn't help you lose weight it just makes your body not get rid of the fat because your body will want to hold on to it because you wont have any energy. Here are some ideas:
-drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
-don't eat a lot of sweets or fat food.
-eat healthy
-exercise. Try playing sports or get a fun workout. Then you can lose weight and have fun at the same time. Or what I used to do is get together with some friends and turn on some upbeat music and make up a dance then you can show the dance to your family. It's a lot of fun and you'll burn calories.
-probly most important be confident. I remember when I was younger I thought I was fat and I would always get down on myself and thoght I wasn't good enough for anyone and that none of the boys in my class would like me. And there are always the popular girls at school that I wanted to be like. I want to tell you that trying to be like them won't help. You need to be confident in yourself and in what you look like. See if your doctor thinks you are overweight first. Maybe you are not. If you are overweight, you are already insulin resistant, In other words, you have to lower your carb intake, meaning "sugar" or you tend to become more and more overweight. The more sugar you eat, the worse the problem will get. When we get overweight our bodies try to make us fatter. This especially means no coke, with high fructose corn syrup, which is much worse than sugar. Drinking more than one coke a week will make you fat. More exercise helps, but I think it is more important what you eat. As soon as you eat more protein, and less sugar, you will not be as hungry. Make small changes. A little bit of walking will help -- it doesn't have to be very much. Also, when you watch TV, do not watch the food commercials, put them on mute. They are trying to make you hungry and sell you more food that you do not need. Another easy thing to do is to eat more fiber. I like benefiber. You can put in almost anything and you can't tell its there. I eat 5 small meals a day three hours apart and try not to eat after 8 pm. Be sure to eat breakfast and make sure you have protein in every meal. Protein fills you up, sugar and carbohydrates make you hungry and make you want to eat more -- that is the insulin "addiction" kicking in. If there is food around, our bodies want us to eat as much as possible in case there will be an ice age soon when there will be no food available and we will need to have some fat reserves so we don't starve. Once we start putting on fat, our food self regulating mechanisms go haywire and we want to eat more and more if there is food available. Remember, the food companies want to sell you more food that makes you hungrier (carbohydrates) even if it is not good for you, because they make money by selling you more food. The USDA has the job of promoting food companies so we can't exactly trust the government either. Ask you doctor about fructose and high fructose corn syrup. You should not be eating it.

Get hold of a `calorie count' booklet.
From what you read, you should be able to work out three good (high protein) meals per day. Do not exceed the calorie count limit; and you'll get there; persistence and discipline will ensure you take off the excess weight without causing yourself any harm. Ensure a daily good quality Mulit Vitamin and Mineral capsule.
Note: equally important is EXERCISE; whether it be in the form of dance (vigorous and timed) or long walks, or gym; don't ever underestimate the value of exercise in taking off unwanted pounds!!!
It's VITAL. So, pick a form of exercise that you enjoy/like, and do it, but do it every day!
Good luck with your efforts!!!

When i was 12 i started putting on weight all of a sudden it seemed. My Mom said to me one day "you're a little chubby, like your arms" I quickly rethought what i had eaten that day & 3 cheesecakes were on my menu...you know those ones from Jack & the box? Real yummy! I decided not to eat them anymore & tried to eat more healthy, not eating out every meal & getting into sports. I have never had a problem with my weight since then & anytime i feel a little out of shape I go outside & walk. It makes you feel good! Walking is my favorite fat burner! Walk to school & back if you can....anyway, if you want more info, let me know k?!

Eat a well balanced diet with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit. Cut back on the sodas and junk food and get more exercise. It's normal to go through growth stages where you gain and lose weight. Unless you are considerably overweight then I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck!

Get out with you mates and don't even think of diets at your age. Lots of fruit smoothies as snacks should help keep hunger pangs at bay,
My daughter is thirteen and not a thin size 12 but a very healthy 14.
We are all different heights and sizes so just be yourself.
