Probably hyperventilating. The old trick is to get a small paper bag and breathe into it. You will be replenishing your carbon dioxide. Another trick is to try to calm yourself as best you could and do deep breathing exercises.

I've dealt with panic attacks almost my whole life. Try involving your mind in something else. Start counting backward by three's or naming the states or anything that will take your mind off of the panic. As you do this, your body will start relaxing and your breathing will return to normal.
If you have panic often, a good resource for you is a site called the Anxiety and Panic Information Resource or TAPIR. Google the name and you can talk to others with similar problems.
Good luck to you!

Breathe slowly in and out into a paper bag. Wait til you are calm and get some rest. If it happens again, seek some help from a doctor etc.

Have you checked out L-Theanine? It works fairly quickly. Liquid Kava Kava works quickly as well, but tastes disgusting. You might want to talk with a very competent doctor about these supplements. Kava Kava has had serious side effects.

exercise helps, but yoga works best, it helps you to learn to breath very slowly and very deeply. you should try it if you haven't already, it has helped me tremendously with panic and anxiety. There is a great three part breath, breath into your belly, then to your ribcage, then your lungs in one inhale, then exhale slowly, repeat.
good luck!
