John W. Kluge, the owner does. Kluge, who made his fortune in buying radio and TV stations, got onto a restaurant kick in the mid 80's. He bought not only Ponderosa but also Bonanza and Bennigans.

The chain at one time was the 33rd biggest restaurant chain in America. However, its image as an affordable steakhouse wasn't appropriate for much of the 90's when the concept fell out of favor.

I like the shrimp dishes that have just come out. The steaks tend to be a little gristly.

I don't care for them. I didn't know the chain was still in operation.

are they still in business, i used to go in my younger years. they were the best, the buttered rolls yummo
