Just call the customer service number for your credit card. It should be a toll free number found on the back of your credit card. Speak to a representative and tell them you want to cancel your card. It will show up on your credit report as a closed account and it should say "Closed at the consumer's request". Hope this helps.

Canceling a credit card account is easy. Do NOT just cut up your credit card and forget about it! Call the company at the customer service number on the back of the card and say that you wish to cancel your account. Then - be sure to tell them to notify the three credit bureaus (Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian) that YOU cancelled your account. The credit reports should then read: "Account closed by consumer." If a potential lender just sees the account closed on your credit report, with no explanation, they might just assume that the company closed the account on you! So - again - make sure that they mark it - "Account closed by consumer."

Theoretically it is easy. Just call the 800 number and tell them to close your account. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. They will almost always try to talk you out of it by offering you a better interest rate, special offers, the kitchen sink. But be strong. I have heard that you really should send a letter (registered mail, I think). On your credit report it just lists the credit card and says when you closed the account and any other details (like when you opened it, if it was paid off, etc.).

Yes, it's easy to cancel a credit card. Just contact the company and tell them that you want to close the account. Paying the account to a zero balance does not automatically close the account. The affect on your credit score varies depending on your particular situation. If you have a lot of accounts, closing one probably won't impact you very much.

If you have more than one card call the lender with the lower interest and have them buy out your debt on the other cards you may get a higher limit and it looks good on your credit report. I do this every five years or so and I have a credit rating in the high 700s

Cancelling your credit card is fairly easy, I mean all you have to do is call right? But as others said, they will do everything possible to try to make you stay. So be strong.

Canceling a credit card could actually hurt your credit score.

It works like this:

Credit-scoring models look at a number of factors when calculating your score, including the result of the following formula: The total amount of debt on credit cards and revolving accounts divided by the total amount of debt available on those accounts.

This formula results in a fraction less than one. The lower the fraction the better. A score of one would mean your outstanding debt equals your available credit and you've maxed out your cards.

Let's look at an example. Let's say you've got $5,000 of debt and $15,000 in credit lines. By dividing 5,000 by 15,000 you get one-third. You're using one-third of the credit available to you.

Now let's say you cancel an unused credit card with a $5,000 limit. You've still got $5,000 of debt but only $10,000 in credit lines. By dividing 5,000 by 10,000 you get one-half. You're now using one-half of the credit available to you.

The closer to one this fraction gets, the more it hurts your credit score.

Hope that helped!

its easy as long as you dont have a balance on it, if you do you have to rectify it first,,, if you cancel it due to a fraudulant add or something ,, you can contact your credit company and they will resolve that issue,, as far as for the credit report,, it will leave no derogitory remark as long as you are in good standing on your account and all is rectified,, you will get the best possible rating,, the hardest thing and what takes the most time is if you have a dispute on your credit report,, you have to obtain a current copy of your credit report,, on it will list a contact phone number,, you will file your claim for dispute w/ them, provide details ,, and any other pertinant info.... when it is rectified,, the credit company will usually send you an ammended credit report update, w/ any changes or updates

It's best not to cancel a credit card because it lowers your credit score. It's easy though - just call on the phone and cancel it...)(
