A number of years ago, there was a problem with imported rawhides carrying a virus that made dogs extremely sick. I don't know if the problem has been resolved or not, but I wouldn't want to take the chance if it were my dog.
Personally, I don't give my dog rawhides at all. I give her Nylabones because she can't bite off chunks that could cause choking or intestinal obstructions. And when the Nylabone is chewed, it frills, which helps keep the teeth clean.
If your dog likes the beef taste, you can either buy a flavored Nylabone or boil a regular one in beef broth for an hour or so.

Dogs lick each others nutts and eat cat poop and dead animals . they will eat out a trash can and drink water from puddles on the ground. There is just as much risk of a dog getting sick from American rawhide as another countries rawhide treats. If the animal had anything before being killed, the process of making the treats would more than likely kill off anything. Dogs have died eating American dog food. Nothing in life is guaranteed to be risk free. Just because a package says Made In the USA doesnt mean that it really is all american only that it was packaged here.

Most vets don't recommend raw-hides period. They can help with teething and keeping a dog teeth clean, but there is a risk factor involved as well, dogs can pieces of it lodged in their throat and choke and they are not very easy for the dog to digest...you will notice your dog probably drinks lots of water right after eating a rawhide. If you must give them...don't give them on a daily basis, and make sure you are always nearby when your dog is eating one, never give him one when he is home alone.

I say stick to the USA. I buy my dogs Roasted Pig Ears for a snack (their found next to rawhide in stores). For a short time the large bags of Pig Ears the store carried were from a foreign company. Every bag had gnats in them! I'm glad I saw that before I bought them.

No. All imported animal by-products (including rawhides) are sprayed with chemicals to preserve them during extended shipping periods. Further, other countries standards of manufacturing aren't as stringent as USDA requirements... Stick to "Made in USA" and check Ingredients. Your dog will thank you...

I had heard something bad awhile back about rawhide from other countries. I don't remember exactly what, I don't give them to my dogs. It was enough for me to think I would not give them if they were not processed here.
