I was thinking about this issue seriously. Why can't parents have a holiday one where we have the day off without using our vacation time or sick time and national holiday that we get out of work and you get paid for but the kids still have to go to school, leaving a perfect holiday without the kids being in the house under foot, sorta like a mini vacation if you will. I can not be the only adult that has dreamed of this ?

every parent has but when we get a break we usually worry about them and so on so truly the parents out there who are doin right will always be the paerents our vacation suppose to be when they all grow up and leave the nest, thats why its called golden yrs. unfortunatly now days kids dont have the skills or other reasons and they end up stayin & ahven kids that we take care of, I guess when become a parent your there for life, if we do it right always will be.but we all can dream!!!!!

I'm a parent and I haven't thought about that before, but my kids are too young for school, so I guess I would have had that thought eventually. That's a good idea.

That reminds me as a kid saying around Mother's Day, "How come there isn't a kids day?" And my parents would say, "Every day is kids day." It wasn't until I became a parent that I finally knew what they meant.

My plan is that there should be a three day weekend every two months and a four day weekend every other month in between. Then there should be a national one week spring break for everyone. A similar one week fall break. And a two week summer vacation and two week winter vacation for adults. These would all be national holidays paid by employers, of course. In addition, everyone should get four weeks of vacation and several personal days thrown in (in addition to sick days, of course).

Definately not the only one who has thought of this. We have five children, four of them boys, who are still living at home. About six years ago, my husband and I deemed the third weekend in August as our parent holiday. So every year, our kids make us up their own cards to tell us why they love and appreciate us, then give them to us right before we leave on vacation for the weekend without them. It took awhile to get use to. At first I was calling three of four times a day, but now? I hug and kiss them all, send them to grandma's and really look forward to those three days with just me and my husband. The downside? Half the time all we talk about is the kids!
