You have to have valid reasons for quiting. A lot depends on the person you talk to at the employment office. Give it a go and see how it works for you. You may but it will not be a sure thing. You pay for the benefits yourself. It is listed on most pay stubs. If you haven't paid for very long then that may disqualify you. You are paid according to how long you have been working. Some jobs are seasonal and do pay each time you are off but the payment you make is much larger as well. As they say if you want to know then ask. Go and apply.

Firstly, the Government collects taxes from the people and
companies engaged in doing businesses. With the tax money,
the Government distributes accordingly to various govt.
agencies such as unemployment agency which handles
unemployment problem. However, your case is referred to
this agency which will check and assess whether you deserve
the money for being unemployed.
Since you resigned from your job on your own free will, you
stand no chance of collecting unemployment money.
My advice to you is go and find another similar job quickly before
you ran out of money to support yourself and family.

The government collects unemployment taxes from the employers. The tax goes up a bit if the employer has employees on unemployment benefits.

You generally cannot collect unemployment if you quit of your own accord; however you can still apply and let him choose to deny or grant it. If he wants to deny it, you can appeal the decision. Sometimes, a employer doesn't want the hassle and will just let it slide. So go ahead and apply; the worst that can happen is a denial.

No you cannot collect from the unemployment 'trust' fund your employer supports through payroll fees--because you quit. Then again the reasons you quit ought to be examined. There are attorneys offering free consultations---call one.

generally you can't collect if you say you were fired, or you quit.

however, if you just say you were laid off (which is believable given out bad economy), then it's ok. the unemployment office typically has to verify with your employer on why you were unemployed, but in most cases they even don't bother with it and hand you your check.

The money comes from regular people, like me. It doesn't materialize overnight in a safe.
