Rotties were born to be working dogs. They naturally have a lot of energy. Play with him/her a couple of times a day where he/she can run and fetch until tired, but not overheated in the hot months. Swimming is excellent exercise. A tired dog will be a better behaved dog! Do obedience classes and practice at home. They are smart dogs and need a job or something to do so they keep out of trouble.

My 8 month old Rottie also has a lot lot of energy..I take her for a hike twice a day for 1 1/2 each time, I also put a backpack on her with little weight in it...her behavior changes the minute I give her a job to do.
Good Luck Rotties are very intelligent and lovable dogs

EXCERSIZE, EXCESIZE, EXCERSIZE! Your dog will be soo much better behaved it you walk it for at least an hour a day. Off leash walks are great, you could have the dog pull you on roller blades or a skateboard, you could take your dog for a run through the woods, take the dog swimming while you relax, lol, or you could take up a fun dog sport like agility, fly ball, or anything else that your dog would do great in! Have fun!

Rotts are a very hyper breed. Just like pitts and labs. The only sure way is to just let them play a lot. Take him jogging, hiking. My lab loves to go swimming.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise will calm the dog and wear it out some. If you live in the city, ride a bike and let the dog learn a pace to keep up with you. Remember you are in charge.
