Basically the only thing you cant use inflight (after 10,000 feet and the captains ok) Is anything that requires a signal for instance a radio or cell phone. Well basically those would be impossible to use anyways.

I've heard that the FCC doesn't want you to use use cell phones because the high speed air travel causes you to skip towers so fast that the carriers can't bill you for the calls.Think about it don't you use you're phone at the gate before and after you board? Most of the time you can see the planes landing and taking off right ?It's not terrorism, remember it was a law before 9/11.Plus does it really make sense that radio frequencies would be so close that the designers would even risk the x-over in the first place.AM/FM radioes are O.K. in the gate area.Just no signal sending devices. Why you ask???????? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$They won't even let me use my sattelite phone. And what about Nextel? They have a completely unique frequency.(i.e.you can only get service on a Nextel tower)But yeah, portable DVD's are O.,K. , they don't transmit signal

You have to keep all electrical equipment off just before takeoff and landing. But afterwards, anything goes ! except for mobile phones I think. Besides they don't work up there.

I see tons of people use their laptops on the plane (After takeoff and before landing) and those things send out more electrical signals than a DVD player !

I think you are good to go..... :)
But with the current security in place you had better check to see if you can even bring a electrical product on board.

Even then some airlines are banning Dell laptops due to their batteries going up in smoke.... eeek

You can use any item in flight except items that emit a wireless signal, such as radios or cell phones.
And the only reason that they do not allow use is to prevent interference with the plane's instruments.

almost anything that doesn't transmit a signal-- example, telephones, blackberries, the internet etc. The signals supposedly interfere with flight controls. You can use all these devices after you exit the active runway and go on to a taxiway.

In fact, it applies to all electrical appliances during take-off and landing. So that you are aware should anything be going wrong then.
