I DO HAVE A HEART! i withdrawl my last comment.....that was very painful to watch i did cry....to think thos animals wouldnt be KILLED if people would spay and neuter there dogs and cats. but people dont so..its what has to be done! its very sad i agree but if they didnt control the pet poulation it would be way out of hand! fight harder for the owner's to spay and neuter! simple as that. people cant aford to spend tons of money on getting an animal fixed! there needs to be more "free" to very low priced places to have it done! a once a month pet truck hospital on wheels,in a parking lot isnt enought! it needs to be open everyday all day long! free for all animals i would gladly pay more tax money for this service for the good of my country and the animals!

It really is a shame so many dogs and cats are destroyed every year. Humans are to blame. Unfortunately the animals can not control there own urges to mate. Only we can get our pets fixed. Then there are all the pathedic people out there that want a puppy or kitten but don't want to take care of the pet after the first year. They then take it to the local shelter where the odds of being adopted are not very good and they turn around and get another baby animal not long after that, and start the cycle all over again. Do I agree with gasing the animals. NO.... I think it is horrible. But the truth is there are to many stray animals out there for everyone to adopt and take care of. It is not a very nice thing, but in some ways they are better off. The solution is a crack down on animal owners and enforcing stricter penalties on people that do not take care of there pets, and those that do not get there animals fixed. The laws are to leinant and as long as no one is punished for these actions, these poor animals will be the destroyed.

Keep in mind that this IS a PETA video, MADE to tug at your heart strings. Peta information is not always the way it actually happens. Like the dramatic crying and screaming of the dogs in the box as the gas comes in.......carbon monoxide makes the dogs go to sleep. The dogs would've started screaming like that the minute the lid came down.
However, I agree that there are way too many animals killed in shelters each year. The shelters are not at fault. I blame all these back yard breeders and those people that just have to have their dogs and cats have puppies or kittens, because puppies are SO CUTE and because they can.
Breeding should be left to the professionals and all other pets should be spayed/neutered. Uncontrolled breeding of your pets at home does not make you an animal lover.

Oh wow... that is the most sickening thing ever.. how could those men even be close to comfortable doing that?? That is so in-humane I can't stand it.. I adopt all of my pets from the shelter.. except my working dogs (I can't get them at the shelter) I am an active volunteer at 3 different animals shelters and donate $1,000 dollars every year to those shelters.. I just wish people had more love for animals like most people do! One day I hope that the gas chamber is unlawful and animals are not put to sleep unless they are in excruciating(sp?) pain!

It's said what has to happen to keep this society free from potential disease carrying vectors...
If only responsible pet owners would get their animals fixed so that they don't produce unwanted offspring...
It is a said fact that many unwanted animals are put to death because their owners have not thought that far into the future...
If these unwanted animals are allowed to roam free, they may turn into packs of wild animals that may eventually attack humans... and, these "urban wild" animals tend to carry unwanted diseases that may pose an even great threat to general populations...
Quit focusing on the end product and work on a solution for the reason why these animals are put to death... thinking with your heart is an easy mistake to make. But, you must use your mind to truly solve problems...
Now, rethink this question and pose another.
Good luck with your development.

It's absolutely devastating to know that these terrible acts are going on. Cats are not the only ones who are being put down - puppies and other dogs are being put down too. No matter what way they put them to death, the problem doesn't lie within the people who work at the clinic - The real problem starts with American citizens and puppy mills. Irresponsible pet owners don't spay/neuter their dogs and cats, so they go around breeding like crazy and having litters and litters of babies. Puppy mills certainly don't help this either - and neither do the idiotic people who purchase animals from a pet store. It's always better to adopt a pet and save a life.

Do you know that uneducated, uninformed people on this list ask for advice on dog breeding everyday here? I have to believe that many of those folks are making puppies and bringing them to shelters that can't find homes for them. Unfortunately, the shelters can't care for these animals forever (at tax payers' expense), so they have no choice but to euthanize them. I hate to see animals get put down, but looking at the big picture, it makes sense.
If you don't care for your local shelter's method of euthanizing, contact them, your local representatives and start a petition to find what you believe might be a more humane method.

It's quite easy to villainies the hand that "holds the Axe". If the millions of pet owners were ALL(many are)responsible in pet care, then the Humane Society wouldn't have to perform this very sad yet very necessary task. Consider the alternative. Millions of stray animals roaming uncared for in our counrty, malnurished, diseased, desprate and dangerous creatures.

I believe you that it's awful and have no interest in viewing it, as I'm already not happy about the overpopulation of animals, or what people do about it. I do my part---adopted four pets from shelters and spayed/neutered them all. My family and friends have done the same. I donate money to feral cat programs to aid vets in spaying them to prevent more of them.
