First of all not all preachers are like that. You cannot sterotype like that. Like others have been saying most preachers do not get paid well at all. They depend on the congregations willingness to give and they only get a portion of that. Usually they have a second job and their wife has to work to support the family. Also being a preacher is a 24/7 job. Most people think that they only work for a couple of hours on a Sunday but it's just the opposite. They have to study for their sermon, do counseling with their church members, funerals, weddings, hospital visits, be available at all hours of the day for family emergencies, and then they have their own personal lives and families to take car of. Most preachers are very honorable men who are used by God to speak the truth.
Secondly we also have the Bible. And any Christian should know that you always check out everything with the Bible before you believe something you hear. The Bible is the standard we should measure every thing else by.
Kudos to Kandelife!

Not all churches are like that, mostly just the ones on t.v. are. A lot of churches don't take credit for what they've done either. The church I go to donates tons of school supplies to the ppl that cannot afford it, they also have a food pantry that serves dinner every Friday, the food pantry also has clothes and non food things ppl might need, they also give money to widows and widowers in need, help single moms, provide free conseling to those who cannot afford it, and the list goes on. On top of all that they teach the Bible and they teach the truth, and they have awesome worship. Hymes can be great, but newer worship is geat too. Trust me, not all pastors are rich! Most of them barely make enough to support thier families, not all are paid by the church and basicly work two full time jobs. Being a pastor isn't easy, they are 24/7 counselors. Can you call your math teacher at 3 am because you can't solve a problem on your own? Not with out him getting mad. You sound like you've been burned by a church, if so they're not all the same! Look at the ppl in the church and the church itself outward apperance means alot. Where I go it doesn't matter if your all dressed up or wearing cuttoff jeans and a T-shirt, they accept everyone as they are. That is what Jasus did, He accepted everyone, He loves us all no matter what we've said or done! I hope you can open your heart and find a church that teaches the truth, love and forgiveness, FREE mercy and grace! We can't earn forgiveness, Jesus gave us that for free, He paid for our forgiveness on the cross and overcame sin when He rose from the grave! All you have to do is ask for Him to forgive you and repent for the things that you've done wrong and He WILL forgive you! It is an awesome gift, why not accept it? It will last all of eternity! I will be praying for you and for someone to come into your life to be that positive light in your life. God bless you!

I do not rely on MAN to tell me about GOD.
God left us a book called the bible, and told us to read and reread it.
I do listen to my pastor and my teachers and I compare those words with the words of the bible. If at any time they do not match, I stick with the bible.
If all you see are false teachers like the ones you describe, then you are looking for all the right answers in all the wrong places. Do not choose a church based on its popularity or growth factor or even on how many "programs and activities" it has.
Choose a church based on how it teaches Gods word. Direct from the bible, and emphasizing no part of it above another. Its all important.

Well, "them rich prechers" is definitely NOT all I have to go on. In fact, I stay as far away from them as I can get. Why do I believe in God? Because He answered me when I needed Him and called on Him. He was there for me when no one else would even lift a hand. He proved to me that He is REAL, and continues to be involved in my life. He did everything possible to make a way for us to come to Him. He took the brutal punishment and death for our sins, so that we wouldn't have to. He sent His Holy Spirit to help us be transformed into His Likeness as His Children. WHY do I believe in God? Because He taught me the true meaning of LOVE, and my heart rests in Him, the Lover of my soul. He has brought me more Joy than anything in this world could give. He is Awesome and Wonderful, and I LOVE HIM.

No this is not how the large majority of preachers do, Most ministers recieve less than a living wage and thier wifes work or they hold a second job.
Most ministies do support all sorts of mission work.
You are sadly confused over a few poor examples

That is sad what some preachers do,but that is not Christianity ! The New Testament calls them "a wolf in sheep's clothing." I hate to see people hungry, it pricks me in my heart and makes my soul bleed.

Hey I believe in God and I don't go to church and I don't belong to any religion. I've just seen too much evidence of God's existance to not believe.

The Bible states that clergy isn't to be paid at all. My church does not pay the clergy, they have regular jobs outside of church.

You are assuming that everyone that believes in God had a religion taught to them. I believe in a God and I came to my conclusions all by myself.
