Why does my cat lick wood.?

I have a cat and she has recently started to lick the wood work around my house. Why is she doing this?

Hi there...this condtion is known as PICA. There isn't an known explanation as to what causes this condition, however some speculate it has to do either with lacking minerals in the diet, weaned to early, or genetically inherant to a specific breed (usually asian breed cats such as the Siamese).

Perhaps, there's something on the wood that tastes good to the cat?

He could be lacking in certain vitamins, try a vitamin supplement or buying a high end cat food (the higher the quality the less they eat... so works out in the end). See if that helps. When I was pregnant I actually craved the taste of metal and other oddities.. ended up being B12 deficient and anemic.

SHE PROBABLY HAS EITHER SOME SORT OF VITAMIN OR MINERAL DEFICIENCY. TAKE HER TO THE VET, I HAD A CAT YEARS AGO WHO LICKED RUST. HE HAD AN IRON DEFICIENCY.
OF COURSE,SHE MIGHT JUST LIKE THE FLAVOR OF THE WOOD IF SHE'S AN INDOOR CAT, TRY PLANTING SOME GRASS IN A POT FOR HER.

I dont know thats really weird, my cat sees imaginary things on the wall and jumps for it.
