It's much cheaper than my lawn care service option, and their guys are mexican anyway...so what's the difference??? I can't communicate with either of them. What am I supposed to do?

You could have hired a high school or middle school kid to do it. Or, better yet, get off your butt and do it yourself. You could probably use some fresh air and exercise. In my neighborhood there is one woman who still cuts her own grass and works a vegetable garden and has flowers all over the place and she is 81 years old!! There is another one who works a garden and has flowers and she is 86!! (Her grandson cuts her grass)I firmly believe that activity is what keeps them going!! You are feeding the flame of illegal immigration by hiring them. There ARE other alternatives. You could pay an American a little more and not be a traitor.

Perchance someone can explain the difference between paying an illegal under the table and paying someone legal under the table? I find, generally, in my dealings with the many different ethnicities that comprise the Latin American community in my community that they have to work under the table because they want to work continuously while the legals want to work under the table so they can avoid working continuously.
While I don't support paying someone under the table for a full time job, I don't think it's a big deal for lawn services. Besides, even if the folks were legal, would you issue them a 1099 at the end of the year, anyway? If you're like the majority of us, probably not. If, on the other hand, you would, check with your illegal for a tax ID number, he/she may have one since they do NOT have to be legal to get one.

Just let Dick Cheney know. Many moons ago, he said, if the government knew where they were, they'd take care of the problem.
Of course, your question is proof positive, that we all know where the illegals are, but no one wants to do anything about it.
I am reminded of the scene in the Untouchables when Sean Connery shows Costner what's going on beneath the Post Office.
You know, there must be some neighborhood kids where you live that would be glad to do that job for you....am I wrong..?

If you pay them minimum wage, even tho you are not legally required to, you will still get better lawn care and you are doing the right thing. If the Mexican community knows that you pay fairly, you will have your choice of the best workers and your lawn will look fantastic!

I don't know. I honestly don't think it's a bad thing, but think about what will happen to them AND you when ppl find out that they're illegal. The authorities might find out.
Learn their language or whatever if you want to communicate with them.

It's bad if you don't want to have sex with that person. But, if you do want sex with that person, then it was a very good hire, and congrats to you.
Also, make sure your "employee" edges the lawn at the side walk really well. I think that always looks really nice when people do that.

Hire a kid in your neighborhood to cut your lawn. My 14 year old does it all summer.

Yes, I think you are. You are also taking advantage of slave labour if you are paying them very cheaply. You should be mowing your own grass or hiring a citizen student.
