The Mormons were driven out of Nauvoo, Illinois after their "prophet" and founder Joseph Smith was killed, in Carthage after a brawl with guards. (He was being held in jail at the time, his follwers believe he was martyred.) They crossed the plains in wagons, carrying things such as pianos, and yet not nearly enough food. Many died and were buried along the way. Then when they passed through what is known today as Immigration Canyon, Brigham Young who was Jospeh Smith's successor as president of the "church" declared that they had reached the promise land that Jospeh had promised in his revelations before he died. (Many scholars have argued that Joseph Smith was actually describing California, from accounts he had heard, and not necessarily visions; and that Brigham Young mistook The Great Salt Lake for the Pacific Ocean) So now here they are..In the promised land that is too dry most of the year, and has a huge f*cking lake that you can't even use because it's salt content is almost 20 times that of the ocean..WOO-HOO!

There are over 12 million members of the Mormon church, and most live outside of the United States. The millions that live within the US are all over, not just in Utah. There is a large population in Utah because that is where the Mormons fled for saftey after they were being persecuted and killed.

I am mormon, I live in Utah because this is where I was born. Yes there are mormons who come to Utah to be closer to the main part of things. But you know God is everywhere. I don't live in Utah because I am mormon. I live here because I was born here. There are mormons all over the globe. We just reside in Utah because that is where the main part of things are, but we can live outside of Utah and learn the same things.

Because that's where the pioneers stopped to get away from the persecution, so that's where they stay. But not all mormons live in Utah. For example, I live in California.

Well they were driven out of their former homes years ago and so they gathered together and traveled to a place where they thought people might leave them alone. (Pioneers) So obvously they ended up finding Utah and staying there. I would give you more details if you wanted them but someone else might do that for you. In fact they probaly did.

Not all of them. I've had a few of those cute boys come to my door wanting to "teach" me about Jesus. Honey, I could teach them a thing or two.

Because Brigham Young said: "This is the right place."

I studied their history.
