With an insulting answer we damage ourselves, stoop to a level that humiliates our ability to reason and respond to others.

Isn't no answer a better course to take?

Yeah, it's possible to disagree on an intellectual level without being a total jerk.

But I think most people think that being a**holes is more fun, unfortunately.

When I disagree, I want to do it constructively.

Truth offends and truth is sometimes stranger than fiction so to say that an answer is an insult because you feel offended by it does not mean that the answer was meant to be an insult.

If you ask a question and wish only to see the answers that make you happy, then you may be the one who has stooped to the level of humiliation and ignorance.

Yes, you are right of course. Although sometimes I just can't help it! I try not to insult the asker personally, just the argument or point I don't agree with.

The best thing to do is report an abuse.

The question is, though...exactly what is an "insulting" answer? What is insulting and offensive to one might not be to another. If we're so concerned with whether or not we're going to offend someone, then perhaps no one should speak to anyone at all.

Oftentimes it serve better to say no without an explanation. Of course it is best if there will be an explanation to your no. As long it does not include an insulting word.

I tend to agree with you when some questions are deliberately intended to insult...but sometimes a person can't help but send an insult back.

I don't mind the insulting ones. THey just make the person who posted them look like an idiot.

Someone answered my last question by asking me if I wanted him to tell people I've had an abortion... okay... don't really know what that's all about, but whatever.

Of course it is. It all depends on how you approach things. If you are the type of person that is very overbearing with wanting people to know your opinions then you will speak up. Sometimes it's best to just shut your mouth and have a little snicker to yourself on the inside.

If your intent is to insult, then yes, a I would prefer 'no' answer. But sometimes, people don't mean to be insulting, they just don't think about what they say before they say it.
