Notice the word: ANOTHER?

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

if the comforter is the holyspirit as John has claimed, then why would Jesus call the holyspirit with another different name? ... the comforter is a name of a person who will come to compelete the message of God.

Jesus is the first Comforter. The Holy Spirit is the second one. Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit in this scripture.

Jesus himself was a great comforter. We were told to place our burdens on Him, and we were to rest on Him. In John 14:6, when Jesus says another Comforter, the Greek word used here for another is "allos", which means another of the same kind. The inference here is that the Holy Spirit is also God.

The Holy Spirit **DOES** Bring Comfort To His servants. That is why Jesus Called Him "Another Comforter."

Christianity started out as a persecuted minority(it still is persecuted in many parts of the world, in fact). It Was Only with the Help Of the Holy Spirit that Our Lord's Disciples were able to remain strong in the threat of torture & death.

Hence, His Title as *Comforter.*

Because Jesus Himself was the comforter and He along with the Father sent along the Holy Spirit for us

Jesus was the first Comforter and the Holy Spirit was the second -it is not another name but a descriptive--Jesus Christ is referred to as being Light-it is not another name for Him but another descriptive.

He said another because Jesus was also a comforter. The Holy Spirit is more commonly known as the comforter because that is one of His defining characteristics.

Christ was a comforter to his disciples.

The Holy Spirit, "the comforter" is the Greek parakeltos, the power and presence of God called to one's side.

They would not receive the Holy Spirit until the day of Pentecost after Christ departed.

"Complete the message of God"? Gee, don't you think that was an awfully big leap? Where do you get the idea that the message was incomplete? Read Galatians & Corinthians...the message IS complete...

Jesus was the ultimate "comforter". The "another" was a reference to the Holy Spirit
