Once your hair is straightened with Japanese hair straightening, it lasts until you get regrowth, and you'll have to have your roots retouched after about 3-6 months. Your hair remains straight after taking a shower or even in a wet weather.

The price depends on the length of your hair, ranging from $300 to $1000. Japanese hair straightening is expensive because it takes two hair stylists and a minimum of four hours to complete the process.

Relaxers are designed primarily for African hair, and Japanese hair straightening is designed primarily for Asian/Caucasian hair. Therefore, Japanese hair straightening doesn't work on African American hair, and if your hair already has a relaxer in it, you will not be able to use this process. The two services are very incompatible and can have very negative results.

The Japanese straightening method is permanent, it does use chemicals so it's not completely safe. However, it supposedly less harmful then your average relaxer. I think the price stems from the fact that it isn't a service offered in most salons, it is labor intensive, and it last longer than a relaxer. My suggestion, if your hair is long enough to go through this process stay natural, and work with what you have.

It is permanent until the hair grows out. Also when you first have Japanese straighting done you can not do certain things for 2 to three weeks. Make sure you have the straighting done be a true professional.
