I am trying to decide between a motorized treadmill and an eliptical (sp?) machine. I want to get the equivelent of a 3 mile daily walk, but i've never tried the eliptical machine so I dont know if it's harder? Something that I will just get discouraged with? Any opinions? A comparison of the 2 would be good, pros and cons

I would go elliptical all the way. The post(s) above pretty hit the points; it can be total body and it's virtually no impact.

But don't go cheap. Go to a nice gym and use an elliptical. Then go to a department store or sports store. The difference is night and day. Sure, the gym piece will cost 2-3k vs. 2-500, but you get what you pay for. Just like you can't take a $100 Huffy mountain biking. It's a worthwile investment and you can generally re-sell high quality exercise equipment for a minimal loss if it turns out not to be your thing. The brands to look at are LifeFitness and Precore.

I own both, and I prefer the eliptical over the treadmill. When you get off of the eliptical you will be sweating with an elevated heart rate without the shock to your knees associated with jogging. You get a harder all over body workout with the eliptical because you are using your arms to move too, getting your whole body involved. I combine both together using the treadmill to cool down. If you decide to go with the eliptical, try one on for size to see if it fits your body size, you want to be comfortable on it. I jumped on an eliptical at a local gym and it was just too damn big, and I am 5'10" and I was stretching to just get it to come around. My home model is smaller and fits my frame very well. Good luck with your decision.

I suggest a treadmill, because honestly I dont know anything about an eliptical machine, but I know that walkin works wonders for the buddy, thats why Im suggesting the treamill, plus u can set up in fron of ur t.v and watch ur fav. show while burning calories and losing weight instead of sitting down and bein a couch potato.

Hope I helped♥
Good luck, either one you choose Im sure you'll get great results because at least your motivated and considering doing 3 miles a day.

Do you have your heart set on either/or because I would personally suggest a recumbant bike...I started riding 1-2 miles a day on it, then up to 5 and now I do 10...and have lost 69 pounds by that and walking. Its keeps track of calories burned, speed, minutes etc. I also read my book while riding which makes the time go by faster. Mine has handles that can be raised and lowered while riding. I actually prop my arms there to hold my book. Its something you can get used to easily if you like to read.
Just my opinion..
Good luck with whatever you choose!
