My cat is just a regular short-haired domestic cat. Do they still get hairballs?

Hi there again Nicole...all cats get hairballs with the exception of the Sphynx breed cat. Their hair is constantly in a shedding state and when they groom themselves they ingest the loose strands and later sometimes throw it up. Brushing a cat weekly for a few minutes can lower the chances of having too much problem with hairballs and it's a wonderful way to bond with your cat as well.

Cats get hairballs from clumps of fur balling up and sticking together instead of passing through the intestine like it normally would. Even short-haired cats can get hairballs. You don't need to worry about it too much if it happens once in a blue moon, but you might want to consider medication if the hairballs are regular or even seasonal (since cats shed more in spring and fall). Most hairball medicines can be bought over-the-counter at almost any pet store, but it's always a good idea to check with you vet first. I'm pretty sure most medications are pills you mix in with your cat's food once a week, making it very easy to treat seasonally. There's also certain types of food, like Science Diet Hairball Formula, that help break down the clumps of fur to make them easier for your cat to pass.

Any cat with fur gets hairballs. You can try to prevent them, but you'll have the occassional hairball anyway.

There are cat foods on the market that help eliminate hairballs, and there are hairball treatments, but the best thing is to brush your cat once a day. That way you'll pull off most of the hair and the cat won't swallow as much. Combine the brushing with the food, and you should have fewer hairballs than you normally would.

It doesn't matter if the cat has long or short hair. Hairballs are caused by eating hair that has fallen out (by grooming themselves).

Brushing your cat on a regular basis will help pull out all the dead hair, which will not only reduce the number of hairballs they get, but also keep your furniture cleaner.

Any cat can have hairballs if they do not have enough liquid or some oil in their diet for the hair to pass thru the digestive system. I give my cat a dab of "Petromalt" Hairball Remedy whenever he has this problem a few times a year.
Check your cat's diet with your Vet if hairballs problems persists.

It's all just a matter of personal preference. I actually have short hair and guys such as it. And i prefer a guy with short hair over a guy with long hair because long hair tends to make guys look as well girly.
