Must we spend the precious moments of our lives striving to hurt one another? When we're on our death-bed, will we say that was a life well-spent?

Wow! Deep question, I like it. I agree with one of the previous answerers. Not just because these things offer us a chance to reflect upon ourselves as a human being or even as the human race but...no one is perfect...therefore a utopia is impossible. We can however, one by one make an honest attempt to live our own lives with love and respecct for others and bring about change. Let our actions, our lives, speak for themselves.

A life spent loving and respecting others, learning and making attempts to bring about changes in order to help humanity, now that, would be a life well spent.

Even before my death bed I look back and wish with all my heart that I would of been a better person. I still think I am finding where my heart is and where it should be.

One thing I can look back on is I understand the short comings of some people. I know what fear can do to you. The anger it brings and the way you lash out at people and ideas.

I think a better thought is why do we fear ourselves so much that we thrust ideas out in to the universe that make no sense. I wish to never fear the things I don't understand. To accept the thoughts and feelings of others and reach out even when I think they are wrong.

So yes why do we spend so much of our time regretting when we should be celebrating our ups and downs.

Unfortunately, most of us do spend most of our lives hating, no matter what our religion, race, color, ethnicity, etc... no matter who we are we can always find something about someone else that we can hate. As a nurse working more than 10 years with cancer patients, I see many people and their families at the end of their lives. Some never get past the anger, and it is a sin that those people carry that with them. Others find peace and acceptance, and it is from these dying people I have learned many of lifes lessons. It has changed how I live, my outlook on life, and how I am raising my children.

What an excellent observation! Can you imagine how much better the world would be if everyone took a few quiet moments to ponder that question?

I try not to waste my life on the above foolish things. Life's too short. But some people can't see that. But I'd say that they will regret that on their deathbeds.

Interesting thought, sometimes I imagine myself lying on my death bed and looking back over life, I'm happy with where I'm at and where I'm going so it would be OK. I think everyone should imagine their death bed from time to time.

Not saying I like any of these things, but without them, how would we grow as human beings....how would we learn....no pain, no gain.
