If one hugs a tree with sincere gratitude for all one recieves from creation and the creator, and the plant kingdom, one is more open to recieve blessings, and undo some of the damage to a trees spirit from some of the destructive ways of humans. After all, even our thoughts can be damaging. Gratitude and love, as one Japanese scientist said...who studied water most of his life, should be like h20. one part love, to two parts gratitude. Think of what you get from plants. Food, shelter, art, medicine, energy, incense, etc etc etc.
Peace.

The tree gives birth to half human and half tree saplings? The tree sues the human for child support (usually a little Miracle-Gro and mulch).
Sorry, I needed a little sense of humor while answering (and asking) these deep questions.

the tree tells other trees that you are a good hugger and you get points. the points don't really matter though, but they make you feel good about yourself.

They just stand there confused.
Their little acorn brains cannot figure out why somebody wants to hug them.
