It's a good question. I'm so completely in love with the original that I couldn't see remaking it, as I'm a firm believer in 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. However, I could definitely see...
Scarlett: I really don't think Angelina Jolie. She just... meh. It wouldn't feel right. Possibly Ashley Judd, she's got that cute fiery Southern thing going on.
Rhett: A lot of people have said George Clooney and I have to agree, he's absolutely perfect, and he's a great actor to boot.
Ashley: Again, can't see Brad Pitt doing it, just because of how exceptionally crap his acting has gotten, and it's not really his kind of role. His face is too strong for him to play someone as retiring and emotional as Ashley. So... Patrick Wilson, I think.
Melanie: Mmh. Err... that's a tough one. I like Catherine McCormack, but she's almost too pretty.
Who else are we casting here, Mammy? Honestly no idea. I don't know how anyone could top Hattie Daniel.

I don't think Gone with the Wind could ever be remade...it was perfect the first time and fitting of the time.

If GWTW were remade, I'd definitely cast Tyler Perry's Madea as Mammy, 'cause she'd get up in there and kick the sh*t out of those Confederate b@astards!

I wouldn't redo it today, it would be very hard to find actors who could play the roles well and be believable from the time period. Somehow I don't think a production from now would hold up very well in competition with the one from the past.
