Misplaced guilt suggests it is something in the past... don't need to dwell there... but, it has created some triggers in the subconscious mind and will have an effect on your actions and reactions.. Need to get into the memory storehouse and get rid of the triggers. Thinking about the situation is only going to result in an aggravation to the problem.. as well as adding more triggers. Need to either drop it from your conscious level or get busy and dig them out of the subconscious.

I want you to try what I do: close your eyes, breathe deep, don't think of anything but that hard, solid surface beneath your feet called the earth - the rock and stone of it that has been around "forever" and doesn't change very fast at all. Breathe deep, rest and take comfort in the fact that some things never change, and there are more solid things in this world than the rocks. Your very breaths are your own, and they come and go without your prodding them on - they take care of you. Your own body takes care of you, just as you take care of it. Relax. Breathe. And know this: you are not alone. Look at all the answers you've gotten already. :)

A lot of times misplaced guilt goes along with misplaced responsibility.

Change "I can't" to "I am not willing to".......see what happens. It can be scary to admit that we have far more control over the outcome than we had originally thought. All of the sudden, we have all this responsibility......
Mistakes are merely ways to find out what didn't work correctly. they do not deract from us, or our quality as a person.
Seeking the wisdom from our mistakes requires that we step back and discover that we are not always right, and our way doesn't always work. We realize that we have been challenged to learn something, improve something, or overcome something.
That is how we gain wisdom. Not by hiding behind medications or avoiding the issues.

Ok... then don't see a psychiatrist, don't talk to someone about it, and definitely don't start focusing on the good things in your life instead of the bad. Matter of fact, you should not stop wallowing in your self pity, definitely don't set any goals to improve your situation, and make sure you don't be more positive and proactive instead of negative and reactive. And be sure to not enjoy the rest of your life.

Try regression. Will coloring comfort you? A favorite movie or blanket? An old friend? Do crafts or buy a toy.

Well to answer you we will need a little more information.
1. What do you feel guilty about?
2. What things make you feel guilty?
There are several reasons why you could be suffering. You just didn't give enough information.
How old you are?

Why is it "misplaced" guilt? Maybe it's valid guilt.
