How about this... for those people (such as those with arthritis or other joint diseases) who find it difficult to spread butter, jam, or other spreadable sandwich items make it so the butter knife blade is bent slightly as well as slightly twisted. This would ease the sliding pressure needed to spread the contents onto the bread, and not shred the bread.

Is this a school project?

If so, then I would suggest a Rube Goldberg device. One object hits another object, which sends a ball down a funnel, which closes a mouse trap, which opens a valve, which ignites the gas - that cooks your eggs for you.

Or something like that. :))))))

If your interest in invention is of a more practical nature, then there is no need to rush. Read something in a field you are interested in. Then read something else in another field you are interested in. Then figure out a way to combine things from the two different fields - or areas of interest you have.

Look for ideas in science-fiction books and magazines. The "impossible" usually has little or no competition. And science-fiction readers will love you for it. The fact that somebody else has thought of it in a work of fiction - indicates there might be a demand for the actual invention.

Read magazines like Inventor's Digest.

They can show you the 10 most common mistakes that inventors make. They can teach you about the rip off artists - and how to avoid them. They can show you different construction techniques, and how to prototype. They can show you the proper way to do a patent search.

They are a goldmine of information.

And most of all - good luck.

friend i think its better for you to think about a project rather than finding an easy way out. I believe that was the real idea of your instructor. it helps you to grow more brain power, just by thinking about it. If you think too hard, you will drain yourself. what you do is start training yourself to see things differently. during your normal everyday activity, you see many things. every time you look at something, think about it. think how you use it. when you use it, does it do everything you want it to do, or does it need to be modified to work better for you? dont rush yourself, and know that when your project is about due, you will have the answer. you will then see that it wasn't so difficult after all.
sometimes simple things seem so hard. its only hard until you figure it out. here's one for you, and the reason behind it. when you get rich remember me. I usually like to keep my ideas to myself, same reason nobody else wants to tell you. I have alot of them come and go. but for you, there are some people who are physically challenged and not so lucky as most to be able to do the things most take for granted. If you want to be a great inventor, do something to improve other peoples lives. For the person who cannot hold a pen to write with because they cannot grasp it hard enough, because they cannot close their hand all the way.......solution.....take a bicycle grip and fit a wooden dowel in it the same length as the grip, so the dowel is tight. now drill a hole the whole length of the wooden dowel, the hole diameter just right to fit a writing pen into.
the cheap ones that are straight that you can buy about 12 for a dollar. when you drill the hole for the pen, you drill in from one end then drill in from the other end trying to match the other, but slightly off just a little. that way when you insert the pen it will put it in a bind so it will stay, and be able to remove it later to put a fresh one in it. or just glue it in and call it good. the grip will be easier for the challenged person to hold onto. I dont think there is anything like this and i just thought it up as i'm writing to you.

If you need to make a booklet, the problem is how to staple the center of the book with a normal stapler.

One solution is to place an eraser below the book and use an opened stapler to punch it in. Then turn over the book and press the open ends of the staple down.

You can make an invention along those lines. Make a contraption to aid in that process.

if you have to actually build the prototype, you want it to be very simple indeed, like the string

how about, taping a small flashling to something, like scissors, so you could use them in the dark (pretty weak? yeah)

okay
how about taping two toothbruses together so you could brush top and bottom teeth at the same time (this one is even lamer but it is easy and might get a laugh)

hmmm
i'm coming up empty, must not be very inventive today

good luck
keep at it, it will come to you
