My daughter ( 10 y.o.) has recurrent episodes of strep- usually gets it from her school I think. Some of her dr's advise her to go with a tonsillectomy-others advise not to. Need someone with first -hand knowledge who has experienced this: Has tonsillectomy helped, not made a difference, some other reccomendations?

Tonsillectomy helped me.

There could be a 'strep carrier' around that helps with the reinfection. Some folks don't exhibit symptoms but carry the little buggers.

Well, for me, I was born with bad tonsils. I had mine removed when I was three years old.

I still would get the normal sore throat with a cold (tolerable) but after I become grown around the age of 33, I had strep throat for the first time in my life. Thought I was going to die!! :D Never had it again and I hope I never do!!

I don't get ear infections but I did experience one of those in my adulthood also. Have never had that to happen to me again either.

Having her tonsils removed is not that big of a deal. It is a very common precedure and it just might help your daughter. I wouldn't think that having them removed could make her situation any worse.

Pray on it and do what you think is best for her.

Tonsillecomy won't hurt but may not make that much difference. Yes, she does get it from school or someone who has the bacteria. Washing hands, don't eat or drink after anyone, use clean eating and drinking dishes, and keep cuts and sores clean will help prevent infecion. Anyone with the infection should stay home for at least 24 hours after starting a regiment of antibiotics.

i had that as a child and they wanted the same, never did it, just have her suck on chewable GNC vitaminC tablets a few times a day and that should help, it did w/ me. im fine now and glad I have all my parts, she may be allergic to some thing she is eating or drinking as I was, milk products was mine, so check that out, because allergies can cause sickness eventually.

I haven't gone through it but my mom has and she says rather than sore throats its now ear aches. The infection has to go somewhere.
