As a Christian, I have to say my belief in the Lord guides my way of life. My life is a reflection of my beliefs. I believe in worshiping the Lord in truth and spirit (and not just on Sundays, but every single day). I believe in sharing the Word of the Lord with others, but not forcing my beliefs on anyone. I believe in treating human beings with love and compassion. I believe I should donate my money and time to help others in need. I believe in forgiveness and understanding. I believe in tolerance and acceptance. I try to live the Word of the Lord. I enjoy the life the Lord gave me on this earth. I show respect for the earth He gave us. I seek an eternal life with Christ.

Religion has nothing to do with it, but it is all about the Golden Rule. This poem, which I have known by heart for more than 40 years, touches me today as it did the first time I heard it ..

Abou Ben Adhem

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An Angel writing in a book of gold:

Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?" The Vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."

"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the Angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerily still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one who loves his fellow men."

The Angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And, lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest!
